3a/4b dry lake

Recommended Posts

I know this area fairly well, mostly just from coyote hunting, But we drew 2 cow tags in there for Aug 6.

We did some scouting in there this weekend ,We got there before the sun came up to try and glass from the pink cliffs ,but we only saw deer coming out of the fields. It was very wet and green up there, I'm wondering if they don't hit the alfalfa fields as often when feed is so plentiful elsewhere.

Also I was under the impression that the reason they have this dry lake hunt is to help keep the elk out of the alfalfa fields? Maybe not because the farmers have locked up all of the easy access to get behind the fields.

Does anyone have any info that they are willing to share? 3a side? 4b side? North side or south side of the fields? It appears that when they leave those fields they will walk at least 2 or 3 miles before they bed down.?

Any help would be great!

My wife has that same hunt for the fist time and I don't know the area so I wouldn't be much help. We've been out there a couple of times scouting and have found some good water but now with all this rain that may not be the best bet. We'll probly try that first anyways if it dries out a bit. Hoping they'll still come in. If not we'll be hitting the hills around there where we've seen them. Good luck and let me know how you do.

Well how'd you guys do? It was a tough hunt but my wife finally got one on Sat evening off of a water tank. First elk we seen in 7 days of hunting. Guess that's why they call it a limited opportunity hunt. It was definately that.
