When Is Hunting Time?

Recommended Posts

I am planning on going coyote hunting on friday morning and am planning on waking up at 3 AM. I know it's illegal to night hunt coyotes at night so what time can I Legally hunt for coyotes in AZ?

I think it is 30 minutes before sunrise, and 30 minutes before sunset. Call AZFG.

When rifle huning, I use the dove hunting pamphlet to really know the sunrise/sunset times; also, I figure that if I can not CLEARLY see my sights, well, time for another coffee, or time to unload the chamber and chill.

If you can identify your target than you're legal. But you really ought to sit down and read the Regulations before you step out into the field.

Unfortunately that is not correct or many of us would be hunting at night. Regs state 30 minutes before sunup and 30 minutes after sunset.

I think he meant if there is enough light that you can see well enough to identify your target, then it's within legal shooting hrs...generally you can't see much until 30 mins before sunrise (or 30 mins after sunset)

Please show me where it states that. I believe that's a misconception amongst big-game hunters in AZ. Remember, the guy asked about coyote hunting, not dove.

And obviously I wasn't suggesting that hunting under a full moon is legit.....

I was incorrect and you were spot on. My apologies.

The 2010-2011 AZG&F Regulation books states on page 87.

SHOOTING HOURS

Legal shooting time is during daylight hours

(see sunrise-sunset chart on page 99) or as

prescribed by the Commission (see individual

Commission Orders). In general, if you can

see well enough to shoot safely, you are legal.

Taking wild animals or birds by moonlight or

artificial light is illegal, except for raccoons,

reptiles and other mammals as prescribed in

R12-4-304, page 117. Other time requirements

apply for migratory birds (see Migratory Bird

Regulations).
