They are a little on the expensive side in my opinion. The hunting unit maps they sale are very detailed and fairly current. I don't know of any better. TREESTANDMAN Report post Posted September 14, 2005 AZ Guide, Has Heath told you about the possible Coues typical World record they spotted in one of the desert units? Ask him about it. The unit was all he would tell me and he is my relative. Based on his description it sounds like an incredible buck.
weatherby Report post Posted September 16, 2005 Arizona Guide, I've tried every trpe of topo map (USGS printed maps, computer software, etc) and must state that the best source for topo maps is a web site topozone.com. You can brouse topo maps at no cost. You can also print them to have a cheap, disposable map for your pack. You can also order custom printed topo's from them for a small charge (~$40) based opn EXACTLY the area you intend to hunt. It's a great site with good features and products. Happy hunting. ichiban43 Report post Posted September 28, 2005 Huntmaps.com Great waterproof material and fully customizable. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> [/quote Toppzone is good, but try Maptech also. It has a feature that allows you to pinpoint GPS coordinates on the map with your cursor. Great for plotting waterholes and such.]
azhuntsmen Report post Posted September 29, 2005 The wide world of maps uses a company called Off Route to make those custom maps and they are only a portion of the unit and not the part u want or need LOL, not worth the price. Its the same program as NGS topo just printed of a plotter and on water proof paper(i used to manage at the WWM and GPS instructor). I perfer the software Maptech it gets the job done in my opinion. Once sticker shock has worn off u can print your own custom hunt map with your own little notes and reminders the best thing is if u ruin it u can print another for nothing. I have used all the map software and still like Maptech
JVS Report post Posted September 29, 2005 If you're looking for topography only, google has a free download that lets you see 3-d. Similar feature as the autocad 3-d. You can actually walk up canyons, tilt, pan, etc. Some areas have better aerials that others. The areas I was most interested in had poor aerial resolution . Hope this helps anyone.
