Recommended Posts

Remington 700

Do you think I will the "high" standard Leupold rings or can I get away with mediums?

I have medium height rings with a 50mm conquest on a feather weight rifle. I would guess it will more than likely depend on your barrels contour.

Not to be the guy who suggests what he has "cuz its best" I would highly suggest talley rings/bases. They arent harldy any more and better as far as I'm concerned. They may save you some greif I had 2 sets of ring and 2 sets of bases the exact same for my swaro on my 700. I couldnt get enough elevation out of any combo. Swapped to talley one piece rings and bases. From dead center of my scope it was a total of 6 clicks to be dead on. I havent had to adjust the scope since I installed it the first time. The high leupold rings werent too high as far as clearance was concerned, It all depends on length of scope too, mine scope is a pretty long, a shorter scope will have a harder time clearing.

Generally, you can get away with medium rings with a 30 mm tubed scope. I have one right now that actually hits the base that protrudes too far forward but that is rare. As for Talley bases and rings, they are good, but not the only thing out there. I have shied away from the Redfield style bases/rings (twist-in) in recent years as I don't like the lock up that you get with the cone screws that secure the rear ring. I prefer a steel Weaver style bases (Warne Maxima, Weaver Grand Slam, Burrist XTR et al) and Leupold QRW type rings. Very strong and very available. I like Burris Signature rings that have been modified with a bigger cross-bolt.

If you want ultra light weight, get the Talleys that have the bottom ring and base as a solid unit.
