Broken Wheels Report post Posted July 21, 2010 Some folks on here oughta try reading everything before they spout off! And when you make comments such as "high priced" on a weapon such as a Pre64 and you haven't laid eyes on that weapon yet, you really should refrain from such comments on a quality site such as CWT. All it does is cause anxiety, bitterness and negativity which we try to avoid by coming to CWT and sharing the jpy of hunting, fishing and camping together! Just saying... .270 Report post Posted July 23, 2010 allen, how old is the 70? is it one of the oldest styles with the spatula safety that folds in front of the iron sight path? has it had a scope on it? on the first model the safety was on top of the bolt and and when you put it on safe the safety lever would rotate to block your sight picture. they modified some at first and then they changed the safety to how they all are now, so you could use a scope with one. i don't know how long they made them that way, but i don't have one. some day if i can find one i can afford i'd like to get one. i used to have a goal to have one of every model and one of every caliber. not neccessarily one of every model and every caliber they made each model, but one to represent em. they made probably 2 dozen models and a buncha different calibers. you have the best caliber o' course. as far as high priced, a gun is worth what you can get for it. later, Lark. coueshunter Report post Posted July 23, 2010 Lark, kinda like you, I had a hankerin to own some particular guns. This one was because it was Jack O'Connors favorite. I have never shot it, bought it about 10 years ago. It has been in a safe since then. I will pull it out this weekend and look it over. I know the serial number is real low for whatever thats worth...................Allen..............
.270 Report post Posted July 23, 2010 if it has, or has had a scope on it, it probably doesn't have the spatula safety. they're probably all under 10,000. i always thought it was a neat concept, because when you pull up the rifle you are automatically told it's on safety because you can't see the sights. i have several .270's in several different models. fine rifles. model 70's are wierd as far as their worth. you see very few for sale at the gunshows anymore. and when you do they're all over the place on the price. if it happened to be a super grade or something like that, they are really high. coueshunter Report post Posted July 23, 2010 I am going to get the gun and rangefinder out tonight/tomorrow and provide more info..........Thanks............AT................
coueshunter Report post Posted July 23, 2010 Lark, the safety is right on the back end of the bolt it slides right to left but doesnt look like it blocks your sight path. It has what I think is the serial number on the barrell 26110. The gun is just the .270 WCF not the super grade. Does not have a scope nor did it ever......blueing is great, stock is really nice piece of wood.......Doesnt look like anything has been modified on it........if i can figure out how to post a picture i will...........if not, i can bring it to my office 40th street/Broadway in Phoenix.........AT.......
