tjhunt2 Report post Posted July 20, 2010 Peg and I had lunch with Mr. Quimby while we were camped at Big Lake. We drove down and met him at the FrostyBottom Cafe, which I highly recommend if you're ever in Greer. It's located just in front of the Quacker Barrel Antique Shop and has excellent sandwiches and great milkshakes. After lunch Bill invited us back to his cabin where we enjoyed listening to some of Bill's tales of Africa. It definitelly was the highlight of our trip to the White Mountains. Peg and I got a couple pictures with Bill and his book "Sixety Years A Hunter" and thought I would share them with you. Before we said our good-byes, Bill graciously gave Peg and I a gift of one of his many books. Peg was so excited that he wrote her name before mine when signing it. This book he co-wrote called "Memories from Greer" and can be found in the Greer library. It was an honor to have met Bill. Thanks Bill for the book, we value highly, and we appreciated you taking the time to spend with us. It was a great visit. This is a little late due to the fact I couldn't figure how to get the pictures on here. Peg and I spent 11 days at Big Lake, over the 4th, and it was one of the most relaxing trips I've ever taken. Slepted in everyday and never hit the water before noon. We caught just enough for a fish taco dinner one night. It was high 40s at night and one hot day of 72. Our new puppy, Lexie, ate some mushrooms and got pretty sick for a few days. Crapped all over the trailer and kepted us busy for two days picking up after her. We found Coach's camp, Jason, but his wife said he was over at the shoot. After taking pictures with Bill we never took another picture the whole trip. Never even thought about it. That's how laid back we were. "Sixety Years A Hunter" is a very interesting book. A must read. Peg doesn't know when she ever met anyone as interesting as Bill. CouesWhitetail Report post Posted July 20, 2010 Hey Bill, Are you going to be up in Greer this weekend? I will be up at Sunrise for the 3d shoot. Perhaps if you have time we can get together and I can get my copy of your book signed.

billrquimby Report post Posted July 28, 2010 Nice! Bill seems like a great man. I appreciate his generous contributions to the forum. I had a great visit with Peg and TJ (see, I did it again!) and really enjoyed meeting them. The Frosty Bottom is a sandwich wagon owned by a young lady my wife and I would like to see do well. I highly recommend her food, especially her malts, made exactly like the old-time drug stores used to sell. To those who have emailed and sent PMs to ask why I've been off the forum for nearly three weeks, my wife and I got stuck in Tucson (ugh!) when we went down for appointments with doctors. We have our Tucson phone shut down in the summer so there is no internet access there. I went on line only one time, and it was at a library. There were so many emails backed up I never had a chance to open the site during the hour alloted to me. We finally made it back to Greer today (Tuesday 27 July), which means we missed getting together with Amanda again. Bill Quimby
