.270 Report post Posted July 15, 2010 ok, is there anybody that ain't a no good 7mm/08 shootin' rat bum that knows if it's legal to pick up heads? from what i read in the regs it says that any head you find you have to call the azgfd and then if they can't decide how it died they keep it and if you pakc it out you're in the wrong. did i read it right? i remember a few years ago about the hairless deal, but i was thnking they changed it. oh yeah, alla ya'll's would love to have a full head o' hair like me. might be a little gray tho. monstercoues Report post Posted July 16, 2010 Yep you did read it right. Whether it has hair on it or not, if it's not a shed you cannot legally possess it. Call the local Game Warden and have him hike into the area and look at it with you. Chances are that unless they can determine that it was a poached animal they will let you keep what you have found. You cannot possess any wildlife or parts without evidence of legality. I found a nice mule deer buck when I was elk hunting, head and antlers still attached. Called the local GW and he came out the next day to hike into the area. We couldn't determine if it was poached or not, but he let me keep it. Very nice guy. Hope this helps. It's always best to call the Game and Fish directly if you are unsure of anything. Always get a name from who you talk to, that way if they give you bad info you can put it back on them. bonecollector Report post Posted July 16, 2010 It depends who you deal with, its a real touchy law! There is a thread on it somewhere on here about the whole thing.
Str8Shot Report post Posted July 16, 2010 If skull is intact regardless of hair or meat to be legal you must contact the game and fish to determine cause of death .... here is a link that says it nice and neat for everyone ... http://www.azgfd.net/wildlife/hunting-news...lly/2009/03/12/

rageinthesage Report post Posted July 16, 2010 It's legal, just contact your local G&F officer, take him to the untouched carcess,If he can determine that it died of natural causes he may let you keep it.
COUESAZ Report post Posted July 17, 2010 How can they tell if it is just a skull how it was killed. It will all depend if the warden wants it in his colection or not. That is the part that sucks. Also in some cases you may never get them to hike in with you.
monstercoues Report post Posted July 18, 2010 Only one way to find out and be legal is to pick up the phone and call. If they don't come out, than you can take your chances on whether you get caught or not. And the GW doesn't get to keep it for his or her personal collection, it belongs to the state of AZ, just like all of our wildlife does. It can be sold at action and all money goes back to wildlife. Isn't that what we are all here to support?
