wetmule Report post Posted September 10, 2005 A few days ago I posed a question in the classified section wondering if people thought it might be good classified ettiquette and the right thing to do - That if and when you sell something using this great free site and place a free classified add to unload some of your old or unused hunting gear and you make money with the help of this free service, it might be a nice gesture to donate a small portion of the proceeds to Amanda and CW.com for upkeep of the site. My question got no response. Some time ago Ernesto or some other poster (can't remember) created a thread challenging people to contribute to the site. CHD posted a response and said you will get little or no response. Just wondering if he is right? Some time ago I sold a pair of Swarovskis using this site and I cut Amanda a check for $50. I'm not in cahoots with Amanda, this is on my own, but I saw her the other day at the ADA clinic and she thanked me for my donation and said that so far I was the only one that has donated after selling something. She did say she has taken in other donations unrelated to classified sales. I don't know call me crazy, just makes sense to me that it would be an easy time to give a little back when you are receiving cash with the aid of this site. She could easily charge for classifieds. Maybe with some more cash flow she could create an even better site and have a couple live camera feeds on some prime coues habitat or waterholes, much like the Africa live cam. Food for thought. I wont throw out a percentage or dollar amount, but quite frankly we all get a few bucks worth of enjoyment per week out of this site and I for one have only bought a few things here but use the site weekly. I wont bring up membership dues.......whoops.........lets self analyze ourselves and maybe donate off our classifieds our something to ensure this fantastic forum continues to grow and flourish..........I sincerely doubt the few paid advertisers provide any where near enough income to cover the time Amanda takes to keep all the great info current and new............Amanda, count me in for a company donor/sponsor or whatever. I can take care of it by paypal or mail you a check, just let me know.........THANK YOU for this great place to learn, socialize and drool over pictures..........Thanks wetmule for bringing this up.............Allen......... CouesWhitetail Report post Posted September 10, 2005 No CHD isn't right, at least not completely. Several people that donate do so quietly and don't want to announce it the forum. After that thread that challenged people to make donations I received several donations. There are some very generous people on this site that have made multiple donations to the site every year. Generally in any given year there are 7-10 people that make a donation. I greatly appreciate those people and their generosity. I use donations and the revenue generated from advertising from guides and sales of products to improve the site. Money is used for basic upkeep of the site (hosting, software, tech support) as well as for more interesting things like prizes for the contests. Keeping videos, books, and such stocked requires funds. As does creating stickers, tshirts etc. (which is ongoing). I also use the money to buy a corporate table at the annual AZ Deer Association banquet. I do get some of that money back, but generally that table is subsidized by CW.com by about $300. Considering the money goes to help deer in AZ and CW.com members get to have a great time at the banquet, I think that is a good investment. I also spend money on advertising to help increase the number of people coming to the site. The first year of the site there were $280 in donations, and so far this year we have $388. Other people have made donations of their time and/or items as prizes for contests. Those are just as valuable as monetary donations. I don't think that they want me to name names, but people have donated their skills to create logos for CW.com, artwork, hunting related items, glassing seminars, and more. Some people have offered help with technical issues regarding software and such. Anyway, I just wanted to acknowlege the support I get from some generous members.
