CouesWhitetail Report post Posted June 21, 2010 I was out doing some owl surveys the other day and saw a hen with some very young poults. I tried to get some pics of the poults, but no luck. Then we drove another 50 yards down the road and saw another hen with even smaller chicks. This time I was able to get close for some nice pics. Is this really what grows up into a strutting tom that makes so many of us nuts in the spring?? I saw the chick go behind this log and never come out, so I went around it and found this: and on the way back to the truck I had to make sure I didn't step on any....they held perfectly still the whole time I was around. The hen of course was pacing back and forth telling the chicks to stay down and trying to get me to leave the area. We did a lot of hiking on this trip and the dogs were fully exhausted! Sunshine is getting stronger all the time and although she can't keep up with Julie, she sure tries! And some flower pics:

CouesWhitetail Report post Posted June 23, 2010 Those are cool pictures. I've always wanted to see some little ones just never have. Hows the new puppy? -Jeremy- The new dog is fine. That's her in the pics there (the white one). She is having a ball being a camping/hiking dog. I am glad neither of the dogs was loose when we saw the turkeys or the little chicks would have been history. One of the our other dogs once caught a larger turkey poult but we got to her in time to get her to drop it before it was injured. Amanda
