About 3,500 acres of southern Arizona have been closed off to U.S. citizens due to increased violence at the U.S.-Mexico border, according to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.

The closed off area includes part of the Buenos Aires National Wildlife Refuge that stretches along the U.S.-Mexico border.

Pinal County Sheriff Paul Babeu told Fox News that violence against law enforcement officers and U.S. citizens has increased in the past four months, forcing officers on an 80 mile stretch of Arizona land north of the Mexico border off-limits to Americans.

The refuge had been adversely affected by the increase in drug smugglers, illegal activity and surveillance, which made it dangerous for Americans to visit.

"The situation in this zone has reached a point where continued public use of the area is not prudent," said refuge manager Mitch Ellis.

This is going to work to my advantage this season.. Ya see, since nobody (tax paying AMERICANS ON FEDERAL .ie public LAND IN THE UNITED STATES, that is) will be out there, I am gonna throw on some rag tag dirty jeans, an old t shirt with Che printed on the front, and then wrap a 50lb. bale of alfalfa in burlap and strap it on, and sling my AR over my shoulder.. Those bucks are so used to seeing folks such as this in the area that they'll never give me a second glance.. That 120 buck will never know what hit him!

It'll be like my very own private coues reserve! I'll have it all to myself...minus half of Sinaloa that is just passin' through..

Good to see Fox News is finally catching up.

The closed off area stretches 80 miles along the border and includes part of the Buenos Aires National Wildlife Refuge. It was closed in October 2006 "due to human safety concerns," the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service said Wednesday in response to news reports on the closure.

They are a little late with the story, the person they call the refuge manager transferred out of there 3 years ago.

Funny that this is coming up now ... I have not seen any signs down there the last 3 years restricting us .... But these New signs stretching up to I8 should be a red flag for all that this administration does not care .... 36b will still be our plan B depending on the draw results ... Does anyone know where you can rent Armored RV's preferably one with a 50 cal. turret on top
