Coues 'n' Sheep Report post Posted June 7, 2010 I was told from a rep that a two color string is two seperate made strings that are twisted together to make one, and a single color is made at one time. The guy told me that when you take two strings and twist as one that theres more chance for stretching because one may move from the other. Made since to me when he said it but i dont make strings. The Good strings ar made with many strands... factory strings are like factory tires on a Pickup... you run them out cuz you don't want to waste them.... some tear them off and sell them... no one really likes them. having a Resource like Jeremy here in the Rim Country just makes it easier to tear off the fatory stuff and go custom.... Hope that clears it for you a touch TJ.... the other part is that I wanted my bow to LOOK like no one elses.... so I ordered it all custom. Yes... ego... And yes my wife is still shooting factory strings...She will for this year and then new strings next year, probably.

Never heard or seen two color strings that are two seperate strings twisted together. They are made together out of two strands of fibers they are wrapped around till they add up to about 20-24 individual strands in the string and all served together as one string. I can't say that factory strings are any better or worse than customs. I have searched on PSEs website for string specs and they make theirs out of 452x which is pretty widely considered the best material on the market to date. Their cables are another issue. I believe my x-force came with 8125 cables which aren't the best. That is why I switched mine out for my own made from 452x. Most people consider customs because often they are prestretched which should make initial tuning easier and bows don't come with the fancy colors.
BowNut Report post Posted June 16, 2010 I like 8125 strings and 452X cables. I tried all 452X but they slowed down the bow and makes more noise then 8125 strings. 452X so there is less creep and cam timing problems. And 8125 string less noise and a little more speed. And I always shoot Winners Choice.
Coach Report post Posted June 16, 2010 If you are near the White Mountains, Jed Larson builds AMAZING strings. He's located in Show Low. When I bought my Bowtech Allegiance from him years ago, he installed one of his strings. I've shot literally thousands of arrows since then on the same string and the peep has always turned exactly right - no rubber tubing - just lines up right. I'm sure I'm due for a new string as much as I've shot this one - but year after year, I can pull my bow out in early Spring, knock an arrow and draw back knowing my peep will line up perfectly. All bow strings stretch over time with use. A quality string has to be pre-stretched prior to installation, and it takes a serious piece of equipment and a LOT of knowledge to produce a string that from the first arrow to the n-thousandth, returns to the same spot every time. Jed has a string-building jig that is huge - and does exactly that - by simulating years of use through pressure and stretching - before it is installed. If you really want a quality, pre-stretched string, I highly recommend you get in touch with him. I would be happy to provide contact info if you like. LAR DOG Report post Posted June 28, 2010 IMO you have the best strings and cables that come with a bow madness which are america's best. I have shot winners choice, vapor trail, zebra barracudda and now i have americas best put on all my mathews as soon as i buy one. Americas best stands behind there strings and i have had no twisting of my peep or stretching of the string..i also never order a 2 color string as i think they can stretch more than a single color just my .02..>>-------------------> (.) How's that?? They are all the same materials.... How bout these colors?? Flo Green & Flo Orange mixed and matched ! It is Loud! I am Tired of Camo!!!!! Coues 'n' Sheep Report post Posted June 29, 2010 Oh yeah.... took my bow and droped it off to Jeremy today... I wanted him to build me a new cable cuz I like the green serving better than the orange..HaHa! Well it was worth it... Jermy has been wanting more speed out of my bow so he built the new cable for that purpose... and Sha-Zam.... I gained 9 fps!!! Yup, I am now shooting my hunting arrows 298 fps... never seen a mail order string or cable do that!!! I also got to watch him build a cable for another guy tonight and now I know why I intend to never shoot "Name Brand" manufactured strings/cables... ever again... Thanks again Jeremy! Coach Report post Posted June 29, 2010 Well crap Gino, you had to go and do it... I just weighed my hunting arrows and I'm right at 423 oz. I'm sure my Bowtech Allegiance from 2005 is spitting faster than 298!!! You better bring a chrono to Sunrise and a buttload of beer, 'cause I'm guessing I can out "old-school" you on suds slurpin' too!
cmc Report post Posted July 8, 2010 I shoot custom strings on all my bows nowadays . I have used Winners Choice, John's Customs and Buck Nasty (John and Bucknasty are sold via Archery Talk) Once I've put on one of those strings and set the tune on the bow I've never had to go back and adjust anything. No stretch after the first 50 shots. None! No peep twist (I don't use a peep tube and haven't for years) no knock movement and no control or buss cable adjustments for dual cam bows. That is with a lot of shooting each year. I would say that I average about 100 shots a week. That's not including at hunting camps, at 3 D shoots and other away from home shooting. Just what I do in the back yard and my setup in my garage. Toss in the fact all I do is crawl around spot and stalk everything I hunt I'm very abusive on bow strings. The custom ones hold up much longer both in the field and on the range than any factory string I've shot. I also can not suggest it enough to properly care for your bow string with cleaning and waxing throughout the year! You just sunk some good money in that bow string you better care for it now. Same goes for cleaning and lubing your bow. How many folks have removed their cam axles cleaned them and the limb holes, re-lubed them and put them back in or lubed their limb pockets or other moving parts? I know guys that have owned the same bow for 5 years and never done any of that other than wax their string once a year. Then again they shoot 100 times a year and sit a tank maybe 3 days a year so thier bow doesn't see the abuse to warrant it. Over time though things dry out and dirt gets caked on. Give it a good strip down cleaning and you'll be surprise how it brings an old bow back to life. I'm hearing that a Byron with the Desert Archers is making custom strings here in Tucson. I need to follow up and get the details with that. So far the reports have been very good with his workmanship and quality of products. I believe Kim down at K&L Archery on Ajo can get you one if you're in the market for one. I'll probably get a new one for my wife's bow from Byron when I can get time to place and order. cmc

bonecollector Report post Posted July 9, 2010 Just curious what do custom strings cost? I'm due for a new string pretty soon so just wondering.
cmc Report post Posted July 9, 2010 A set of winners choice that include a string and two cables is going to be $90-$125 give or take on the bow and markup by the seller. Install costs not included. My John's Customs and BuckNasty sets were in the $70-$80 range. Again that's a complete set with a string and buss/control cable(s) and install costs not included. I have my own bow press so string installs are done for free. I am also of the opinion that you should change all out strings & cables at the same time. cmc
