More D Report post Posted September 1, 2005 Wensday morning on the cox home page the new section reported that gas prices were going up .20 cents by the end of this week. So I figured during my lunch at 8:30am I would fill up the truck and the car. I get to the gas station and gas was at $2.63, I was shocked because I just filled up at Costco the Thursday before at $2.45. WOW. My wife went at 8pm to fill up the car at the same gas station for $2.73. Two other gas station less than 1 mile away were at $2.87 and $2.99 You boys up in Phx and up north I guess are gonna have it worse ! We are at $3 per gallon, $4 here we come! Just saw on news that some places went up .50 cent over night!

az4life Report post Posted September 1, 2005 This drastic jump to the financial and phsycological $3.00 mark WILL cut consumption. The oil companies will reap HUGE profits as a benefit of staving off shortages. But they are the good guys for helping us... right! I Planned a scouting trip Friday, and a few other things this weekend. Scouting is on for now... but all other stuff is cancelled due to the cost of getting there. It does add up! It is just frightening to think that my $120 monthly gas bill from 3yrs ago turned into $180 2 years ago, to $220 last year and $325+ at todays rates. I do not have a gashog and am only driving the minimum. Something don't add up. Sorry to say our wages do not keep up with this increase let alone other secondary inflation costs past on by every other business. Katrina ignited the currnet situation but considering the time it will take to recover it could mean recession is on the way?

daryl_s Report post Posted September 1, 2005 This gasoline situation is out of control. I can't say too much becuase of confidentiallity rules at work, but I work for a gasoline/convenience retailer here in the valley and my brother in law is a manager at one of the locations here in Mesa. I talked to him this morning and he told me that their last gasoline delivery came at a cost of $3.11 per gallon and they are selling at $2.89 a gallon. So for the time being they are losing $.22 a gallon. That's a significant hit when you sell about 100,000 gallons of gas a week, which his store does sell. Anyways, there's a lot involved in the whole gasoline retail business. My suggestion is to do what Lark mentioned......complain about the other things that they have more control over, like window squeegees. I too have changed my weekend plans....not going to Big Lake. Still goin campin , just not as far.
az4life Report post Posted September 1, 2005 I agree with Daryl_s Oil companies are the ones racking in the money. The station owners are not to blame! Except for very RARE occasions. I am afraid they are the ones who deal with the customer's anger and frustration! Big Oil has us ALL where they want us!
Guest Ernesto C Report post Posted September 1, 2005 I put $35.00 dlls. of gasoline yesterday on my truck and did not even get half a tank!! .30 cents up more than Tuesday and I did not even have a big truck with a big tank on it. An to make things worst....I read in the local news paper this morning that several gas stations here locally were charging more but giving the public less gas......Did they "fix" the pumps?? or in another words we were thinking we were buying a gallon of gas but in reallity we were getting less than a gallon. Some gas stations got fines up to $5,000.00 dlls. I hope when the big gas companies report that HUGE profit this month they send some $$$$$$ to the poor people that got hit by the hurricane, they really need it. Now the question is....are we going hunting in the future with this gas prices? At least I hope I get a $3.00 dll raise this year yea right. May the Lord bless all your vehicles and make that gas in the tank last for long, long and long time. Thank you. Always watch that muzzle
DEERSLAM Report post Posted September 1, 2005 I'm going hunting no matter what! Just have to cut cost somewhere else, ramen and p&j sandwiches? Just going to have to buddyup and carpool to go huntin
DesertBull Report post Posted September 1, 2005 I can't blame a company for selling thier product to the highest bidder. That's how oil and gas are sold, on the open market. The oil companies do not set the market value. Now, if they all got together and said we are not pumping any more crude because we want the price to go up, then that would be a whole different situation It's no different than a rancher taking his cows to market and selling them. He doesn't say, here are my cows, they are $50 each. He brings them in and the buyers bid on the cows. If there are a lot of buyers and just a few cows, the price is going to go up along with the price of your Double Whopper with cheese. If there are a lot of cows and only a few buyers, the price is going to go down. The problem right now seems to be that we cannot refine the oil fast enough to keep up with demand. Add to that the fact that there are more "buyers" at market now in the form of developing Asian and South American countries. China is driving up the price of almost all natural resources. Checked the price of steel, iron and aluminum lately? Also, There are many many more cars on the road today (and the cars are bigger) than there was 20 years ago, but there are the same amount of refineries. When you get lemons, make lemonade ..... buy stock in Texaco!
KGAINES Report post Posted September 1, 2005 I am heading back up this weekend to get my camera and take my son and nephew up for the night, there were lots of rabbits so I will let them chase a few of those. Ernesto it is very green up there, better than I have seen in years. I am going to scout more often closer to my hunt, but at least I get to take my son out, my daughter wants to go, but still to young. With the price of gas going up I might have to plan on longer stays, and fewer trips. Good Luck and God Bless. DEERSLAM ramen and p&j sandwiches are gourmet for my kids, they think that is about better than anything, they would order that at restaurants if I would let them. daryl_s Report post Posted September 2, 2005 DesertBull could not have said it better, he is right on the money. The work that I do for the gas station is maintenance...including gas dispensers.....I can absolutely assure you that the company that I work for would NEVER gouge or fix pumps to give someone the wrong amount. However, if you think that you are not getting the right amount of gas or that the pump is not calibrated correctly you can call the Arizona department of weights and measures. They take those calls very seriously and they will be at that station doing testing in most cases by the following day. With the price of gas being so high I definitely don't want to pay for gas that I am not getting. It is not uncommon for a pulsar on a pump to go bad causing the calibration to be off and most of the time when they do go bad they give you more gas than you pay for. Anyways, it only takes a few minutes to change out the pulsar, so if a gas station is ripping people off they do get hit with big fines from the state. Here is the link to the site if anybody is interested in checking it out. http://www.azdwm.gov/ All gas stations should have stickers on the gas pumps that have the phone number for weights and measures for people that want to report something. KGAINES Report post Posted September 2, 2005 They are asking like 6 bucks for a bag of ice in new orleans, everything has tripled or more in price there, and they are asking everyone to donate something, I don't mind helping out, but it sucks when people in their own back yard are gauging them like that, that is supply and demand, it is also freaking wrong, it is the same thing with fuel prices, they will raise them until people can barely afford it, supply and demand yes, but still freaking wrong. There will always be an excuse for why the price is high, and it isn't the local gas station.

ultramag Report post Posted September 2, 2005 gas companies, goverment dont really care who they is,they all blame each other for the rising costs.so if the president get a bug bite the price of crude goes up and if some one gets a headache or a gut feeling the price goes up.regardless I, WE have to pay it ,we have no choice.
