tjhunt2 Report post Posted June 1, 2010 Don't let everyone fool you about this unit. It's not the dodging bullets unit as everyone claims. They are the ones who just won't get away from the roads. Keep off the main roads and do your homework away from the main roads and you will do just fine. Good luck on your hunt. Be prepared for some cold weather at this time of year. Good luck on your hunt. TJ
Hightracker Report post Posted June 1, 2010 Watch the rim! Some good bulls like to come off the top to feed. It's a little steep, but like TJ said, you'll be away from all the road hunters. Good luck! Hightracker
deerhunter Report post Posted June 1, 2010 We were up in 22n a couple of year ago on an elk hunt and once you get off the road you dont see any hunters. They are affraid to walk in the snow. And be prepaired there is going to be snow. At last there was when we were their. GOOD LUCK!!
pwrguy Report post Posted June 2, 2010 This should be a good year up here. Lots of food and water. Like everyone else said, stay away from the roads and be prepared to hunt the whole hunt. A lot of the hunters head home after the weekend. Hiking into wilderness areas can be productive on those crowded opening weekends. Good luck
Browning'sCustomMeat Report post Posted June 2, 2010 Me and the ol lady got drawn 22n late. First time getting drawn. I know its like fishing woods canyon Memorial day weekend. Anyone have any advice other then dodging bullets? Don't wear a tan Carhart Jacket.... Just stay away from the roads, lots of hiking, find some secluded pockets, they will hold many bulls, plan on making at least a 300yd shot and bring it to me to cut!! Good Luck to you and your wife! -Jeremy-
youngbuck Report post Posted June 2, 2010 Everyones's advice is good so far. There are a lot of tags but a lot of elk too. The better prepared you are for nasty weather the more glassin you will be able to get in when everyone else is warmin up and dryin out. Good luck!
The Claw Report post Posted June 2, 2010 It can be a tough hunt and IMO it definitely is not what it used to be but good bulls can still be found as previous guys have mentioned. You just have to put in A LOT of work to find them. And longer shots can be the norm in the areas where the bulls are this time of year. You will hear lots of shooting at times but don't let this discourage you because there are a lot of smaller bulls being shot. If you want a better bull just wait out the crowds and go to the areas where there is less traffic which is where the bulls will congregate after the shooting begins. Nothing special there. Good luck. Here is the bull that I helped a friend's son harvest on opening morning last year on that hunt. A long shot and nasty pack out was required to harvest him.
