standman Report post Posted August 31, 2005 Treestandman, I was wondering when someone would notice that I had blood on three arrows. Well my first shot I shot a little high and hit him in the spine. It knocked him straight down. So the other two arrows were to finish him off. I didnt want him to get away. LOL. After he went down I got out of my blind and ran up there. Being a little excited as you could understand my second shot from about five yards didnt hit exactly where I wanted. It would have done the job but to make sure of the quickest kill possible I went ahead and added another arrow in him. I feel fortunate to be able to hunt these beautiful deer as much as I can. This is the third year in a row for me to take a deer. The other buck is on archery page 2. Brian
TREESTANDMAN Report post Posted August 31, 2005 You did good! I agree it is much better to shoot an animal with as many arrows as necessary to make the kill as quick as possible than worry about ruining meat or hide. Those spine shots are nice because they require no tracking. The first buck I shot from a treestand dropped when my arrow when through his brain, and my 2nd buck from a treestand dropped when I spine shot him as well. I put 2 arrows into each of these. My third archery buck which was my last, just dropped w/ a double lung shot.
