cactusjack Report post Posted May 18, 2010 http://www.signonsandiego.com/news/2010/ma...ng-trips-to-sd/ What is the saying, People who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones. You vote with your dollars and I will vote with mine. My favorite quotes are San Diego Councilwoman Donna Frye said she believes some Arizona residents are acting out of a misunderstanding. “The City Council did not pass a resolution boycotting Arizona, and I would hope that the good citizens of Arizona understand that and will continue to visit San Diego,” Frye said. School board President Shelia Jackson said that while she was disappointed to hear of people opting to stay away from San Diego, she doesn’t regret her vote. “It’s sad that people would cancel their plans to come here in reaction to that, but I still think we did the right thing,” Jackson said. “Certainly, we know how important tourism is to San Diego, and it wasn’t my intent to impact the tourism trade.”
el diablo Report post Posted May 18, 2010 Serves them right. I know I was planning on taking my kids to Disneyland this year for their birthdays and absolutely will not after the crap they pulled. Funny how it was all good when they were trying to boycott us but now that it's backfired they're having a change of heart and basically begging for Arizonans to come there. I say F-m
mr.smith Report post Posted May 18, 2010 Did you see this response in the comments? Dear Mayor Villaraigosa, I was dismayed to learn that the Los Angeles City Council voted to boycott Arizona and Arizona-based companies — a vote you strongly supported — to show opposition to SB 1070 (Support our Law Enforcement and Safe Neighborhoods Act). You explained your support of the boycott as follows: “While we recognize that as neighbors, we share resources and ties with the State of Arizona that may be difficult to sever, our goal is not to hurt the local economy of Los Angeles, but to impact the economy of Arizona. Our intent is to use our dollars — or the withholding of our dollars — to send a message.” (emphasis added) I received your message; please receive mine. As a state-wide elected member of the Arizona Corporation Commission overseeing Arizona’s electric and water utilities, I too am keenly aware of the “resources and ties” we share with the City of Los Angeles. In fact, approximately twenty-five percent of the electricity consumed in Los Angeles is generated by power plants in Arizona. If an economic boycott is truly what you desire, I will be happy to encourage Arizona utilities to renegotiate your power agreements so Los Angeles no longer receives any power from Arizona-based generation. I am confident that Arizona’s utilities would be happy to take those electrons off your hands. If, however, you find that the City Council lacks the strength of its convictions to turn off the lights in Los Angeles and boycott Arizona power, please reconsider the wisdom of attempting to harm Arizona’s economy. People of goodwill can disagree over the merits of SB 1070. A state-wide economic boycott of Arizona is not a message sent in goodwill. Sincerely, Commissioner Gary Pierce I don't know if it is truly a copy of a letter sent from our corporation commission but if it is... Then heck Yeah! Stick it to those Kalifornians. Broken Wheels Report post Posted May 18, 2010 So what we are witnessing is the "potential" for total anarchy and break down in our system as we know it today! So L.A. boycotts Arizona, we shut 25% of their power off as well as take away vast amounts of water diverted to their pathetic state which allows their fields to grow produce and fruits (called export goods), which then creates riots no doubt that would make Rodney King's riots look like a grade school kids fight! Then Texas decides to not share its vast amounts of oil which shuts down major cities throughout the country causing more riots and miles of lines for people to just fill their tanks to go to work if they still have jobs to go to and it goes on and on and on! Personally, until this happens Obama and his cronies will continue to ruin this country so I say let the cards fall where they may and lets take care of our own and see just how great this "change" is for the morons who voted for the likes of Obama, Pelosi, Holder, Clinton, Sconyers and the whole lot of them! azslim Report post Posted May 19, 2010 Think this describes the group currently in power rather well. No I didn't write it, no cuss words which are my favorite descriptive adjectives, but I recognize good stuff when I see it and am more than willing to steal it and take credit for it. Holy Crap! I'm on my way to becoming a politician....... Ever hear the term "Limousine Liberal" before? There is a reason the expression "limousine liberal" came into being. It aptly describes those who fervently believe in the theory of liberalism--as long as they remain largely immune from its practical application. It's the cabal of self-righteous souls who are positive that Tea Partiers are racist, xenophobic bigots. It's the same people who encourage family-destroying, welfare dependency--as long as the socially dysfunctional stay in their own neighborhoods. It's those who support all manner of alternative energy--as long as it doesn't spoil their ocean view. It's those who bemoan the deplorable condition of public schools--even as they send their own children to private ones. It's those who champion financial "reform"--because they already have their wealth, and they don't want any competition. It's those who applaud government-run health care--because they have lifetime access to the best hospitals and doctors in the world, and will never spend a minute in any emergency room rubbing elbows with the great unwashed. It's those who wax poetic about the innumerable shortcomings of the country. There are none so enlightened as those for whom "do as I say, not as I do" underlies the totality of their worldview. Unabashed hypocrisy is the foundation of modern-day liberalism. It's the ideology of people who's consciences are completely assuaged by the idea of "throwing money" at every problem they encounter--as long as it's other people's money, and someone else is doing the heavy lifting. DesertBull Report post Posted May 19, 2010 I wrote a letter to the Mayor of San Diego last week telling him I would be taking my vacation dollars elsewhere this year. I guess I was not the only one.
Snapshot Report post Posted May 19, 2010 I think the Boycotting will backfire on much more than just San Diego. What goes around comes around. Did anyone see the Miss USA pagent. One of the Judges whose last name happens to be NUNEZ, asked the pasty white girl what she thought of SB 1070. I enjoyed the look on his face when she said she supported the bill, but was against the profiling. I think that it was a totally inappropriate question from a judge at a beauty pagent. Coach Report post Posted May 19, 2010 No one more deserving - look guys, we all have some time off and maybe a tax refund to spend on a family vacation. How hard is it to send an email to some tourist agencies in San Diego and Los Angeles, that we'll be spending our vacation dollars in "Arizona Friendly" destinations like Utah and Nevada this year? Seriously, my family had our best vacation EVER last summer in Southern Utah. We hauled a 5th Wheel up there and hiked slot canyons, narrows, fished great trout lakes, you name it. Don't think for a second that Sea World, LegoLand and Disney have ANYTHING on the North Rim, Zion, Bryce Canyon or Escalante Staircase. The kids took to the Coral Pink Sand Dunes just N of Kanab with more enthusiasm than some stupid "wait-in-line" ride. And price/budget-wise - NO comparison. Food, under $20 a night at most campgrounds, little to no admittance fees. It was great. The last time I took my family on vacation in CA, our hotel was a prostition hotbed, in sight of Disneyworld. Our truck was stolen right out of the parking lot of Sea World - no kidding. Got recovered in Tiajuana a few weeks later after we found our way home. Complete disaster. There is no reason to give CA your vacation money this year - shoot me an email or PM and I will be happy to point you in the direction of some truly amazing destinations just hours away. I mean, literally, each day for 10 days, we just wondered how we could possibly top yesterday. Best time of my life, so far. BUT, don't slack out - Tell San Diego and Los Angeles Counties EXACTLY why they won't get a nickle from us AZ residents. Be loud, be proud, and be Arizonan's tired of the PC garbage. ghost hunter Report post Posted May 19, 2010 Last year it was the question about gay marriage with the debacle that followed. This year, the question about Az immigration law, and again 2nd place for the correct answer. I see a pattern forming. The pagent needs to get better judges before their credibility is dragged into the ditch.
Coach Report post Posted May 19, 2010 The Miss USA pageant has become nothing more than a political tool. The talented young women who are part of it need to stand up. For years, Miss USA was mocked as an objectification of women. In the past couple of years, It has exemplified the contempt some people in this country have for outspoken women who can bravely cut against the grain and actually speak their minds. Of course they can't win on an honest answer, but there is still a part of our society that wants to say "FU" to the established media, all their money and hollywood power. Look at Carrie Prejean last year. She had it in the bag, but the establisment NEEDED her to lose, so they asked her an honest question about gay marriage, and took her to task, stripping her of her shot for giving her honest answer, that the knew she would give, because the recognized that she had a brain behind that alluring smile and physical beauty. She became a target - a little like Sarah Palin or Elizabeth Hassleback (sp), someone they were afraid of. The left hates 2 things more than anything else in the world - 1: A charming, educated, charismatic black man, and 2: A charming, educated, charismatic white woman. They have no defense for either - and their cowardly attacks on Sarah Palin and Alan Keys show that. You have to respect someone like that, under what to them is the highest possible scrutiny, to stick to her beliefs and not waver, knowing it would cost her everything. THAT is character, and to me, character is what separates the "could-be"s from the "Here I am, Take it or Leave It" types. You know which one I prefer. It's a tough world. Learn to eat or get get eaten, and don't bitch - you made your choice.

az4life Report post Posted May 23, 2010 I cannot even believe the stink CA is making about this issue. It's the law! Lord knows they got enough lawyers to distort the but face it! CA's problems are a lot to blame on illegals. I got this in an email this week and it really tells the story. Read it to the end and you'll see how the 2nd largest legal part of the mexican economy is money sent home from the US. Oil is First if you count legal means, and drugs are first if you count illegal.... JOE LEGAL vs. JOSE ILLEGAL You have two families: "Joe Legal" and "Jose Illegal". Both families have two parents, two children, and live in California . Joe Legal works in construction, has a Social Security Number and makes $25.00 per hour with taxes deducted. Jose Illegal also works in construction, has NO Social Security Number, and gets paid $15.00 cash "under the table". Ready? Now pay attention... Joe Legal: $25.00 per hour x 40 hours = $1000.00 per week, or $52,000.00 per year. Now take 30% away for state and federal tax; Joe Legal now has $31,231.00. Jose Illegal: $15.00 per hour x 40 hours = $600.00 per week, or $31,200.00 per year. Jose Illegal pays no taxes. Jose Illegal now has $31,200...00. Joe Legal pays medical and dental insurance with limited coverage for his family at $600.00 per month, or $7,200.00 per year. Joe Legal now has $24,031.00. Jose Illegal has full medical and dental coverage through the state and local clinics at a cost of $0.00 per year. Jose Illegal still has $31,200.00. Joe Legal makes too much money and is not eligible for food stamps or welfare. Joe Legal pays $500.00 per month for food, or $6,000.00 per year. Joe Legal now has $18,031.00. Jose Illegal has no documented income and is eligible for food stamps and welfare. Jose Illegal still has $31,200.00. Joe Legal pays rent of $1,200.00 per month, or $14,400.00 per year. Joe Legal now has $9,631.00. Jose Illegal receives a $500.00 per month federal rent subsidy. Jose Illegal pays out that $500.00 per month, or $6,000.00 per year. Jose Illegal still has $ 31,200.00. Joe Legal pays $200.00 per month, or $2,400.00 for insurance. Joe Legal now has $7,231.00. Jose Illegal says, "We don't need no stinkin' insurance!" and still has $31,200.00. Joe Legal has to make his $7,231.00 stretch to pay utilities, gasoline, etc. Jose Illegal has to make his $31,200.00 stretch to pay utilities, gasoline, and what he sends out of the country every month. Joe Legal now works overtime on Saturdays or gets a part time job after work. Jose Illegal has nights and weekends off to enjoy with his family. Joe Legal's and Jose Illegal's children both attend the same school. Joe Legal pays for his children's lunches while Jose Illegal's children get a government sponsored lunch. Jose Illegal's children have an after school ESL program. Joe Legal's children go home. Joe Legal and Jose Illegal both enjoy the same police and fire services, but Joe paid for them and Jose did not pay. Do you get it, now? If you vote for or support any politician that supports illegal aliens, You are part of the problem! It's way PAST time to take a stand for America and Americans! What are you waiting for? Pass it on.
