CouesWhitetail Report post Posted August 27, 2005 National Geographic has a link to a live cam in Africa. it's set on a pond and they say best viewing is : 7 a.m.-Noon Botswana Time, which I think is 10 pm - 3 am AZ time. African Wildlife Cam Bookmark it so you can check it out later. Supposed to have some incredible wildlife at that pond periodically. I was just there and you can sometimes here things in the water and hyenas or something calling. But it's all dark now, so you can't see them. Amanda
CouesWhitetail Report post Posted September 8, 2005 Has anyone checked this out. It's pretty cool. Around 10 pm AZ time is a good time to visit. There are some deer/antelope and some guinea fowl (looks like them anyway) there right now. I have seen ostrich come in too. Keep hoping for a lion or something like that. I have been wanting to set up a remote video camera on a good whitetail spot, but can't figure out how to get a live internet feed without a ton of expense. az4life Report post Posted September 8, 2005 I have checked it a few times but I seem to look at all the wrong times. Occasional birds but nothing more. Gotta try that at 10pm tomorrow.
daryl_s Report post Posted September 8, 2005 I've checked it out a few times. I tuned in right now just in time to catch a herd of zebras as they were leaving. Also, saw some elephants coming in one time, there was a little baby elephant in the group. Haven't seen much, still hoping to see a lion or something cool like that. Overall it's a pretty neat site. Sometimes I'll keep it open while using another page to browse so that way you still have the sound and you might hear something going on.

Shiras Report post Posted September 10, 2005 Amanda, Have you checked into the whole expense of the live feed? I know that there would be other logistics as well, such as vandalism, theft, etc.. But, that would be one of the best things ever done with technology! I am glued to this African cam. I got up @ 2 last morning and saw 4 Springbok. I'm pitching in if you need to pool the expense! -Shiras
CouesWhitetail Report post Posted September 10, 2005 I think last time I looked into it, it was like tens of thousands of dollars. I might have to check again. I noticed the company they got to help set up that africa cam was from the valley. So I checked out their website, but they don't really list prices...which of course is always a bad sign (if you don't have a lot of money) I will keep looking into occassionally because I think it's cool.
