grizzly Report post Posted August 27, 2005 As a contractor I cant help how much I drive, often with a trailer and/or heavy equipment, I spend about $800 a month just on gas. I can only imagine what kind of hunting equipment that would buy me.
DesertBull Report post Posted August 27, 2005 I saw my favorite (cheap) stations jumped 8 cents overnight! Hard to believe 2.63 is Cheap now. Remember the 1970's when there was a shortage, high prices (at least for that time) and long lines. The problem back then was apparent back then! A real Shortage drove up prices. Currently, there is no shortage. Oil company profits are driving up the prices. Just wait and see them profit statements! They use the hurricane season and extra summer travel season for excuses to squeeze out more money from an essentially flat customer base and use base. If they had a real reason to increase prices due to increased demand, there would be a shortage. Okay, so many people wonder how this can happen and why the government will not step in. Not socialism, but Anti-trust regulation. It is not like Lark and I can start our own Gas company... (wrong kind of gas) The government "makes" more money in taxes when the oil companies earn more money. The oil companies truly do not pay the taxes, since they pass that cost of doing business on to the consumer in the form of higher prices ...to cover the taxes. Okay, my opinion vent is closed for now. I have to go spend 60.00 to fill up! <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Crude is traded as a commodity on the free market, basically the same as stocks and bonds. With China, parts of South America, and Asian countries all expanding, they are buying up a lot of the crude and gas, forcing prices higher. It would be easy to blame OPEC and the American Oil companies, but they ae pumping oil as fast they can. The real problem is refining capacity and the fact that there has not been an American refinery built in over two decades, even thought hey 40% more cars on the road and American cars tend to be real big with big fuel appetites. There has been a guy in Yuma trying to get a refinery built down there for 20 years and can't get past the enviro-wackos.
azhuntnut Report post Posted August 29, 2005 Based off of my last years figures, I will end up spending $1300.00-$1600.00 more this year than last. Plus business is slower due to other companies cutting back. It is going to cost me $72.00 to fill my truck today(diesel). I wish they would come up with a bio-diesel that isn't so expensive and hard on my injectors. Diesel cost the least to refine, but they are charging to most for it right now. It has been costing me a ton to go back an forth to Flagstaff scouting for my elk hunt. David
.270 Report post Posted August 29, 2005 the price o' gas is what it is. not much any of us normal folks can do about it. what pisses me off to no end is to pay nearly $3 for a gallon and not have any water or paper towells and maybe one broke squeegee to clean off your winnders with. i made a big scene at 2 places this weekend over it. am-pm in gilbert and the alberstons at power and qc. and i'm gonna keep it up too. seems like the higher the gas price the bigger pricks the gas vendors become. revolt, people, revolt. i know it ain't gonna make a bit o' difference in the price, but at least i get to holler at some dumb gas station manager.
