ehunt Report post Posted April 26, 2010 I was watching the Outdoor Channel today and saw a commercial for an electronic wind detector, i think it was called the firefly. My question is do people really need a product like this? What happened to kicking some dust or even the hand held powder that i think works great. Anyway just wanted to hear some of your opinions on something like this?
Snapshot Report post Posted April 26, 2010 Its just marketing to sell to the " I gotta get me one of those" gadget guys. I have been using a .99 cent snuffer bottle with baby powder for years. It always works!

DCMHunter Report post Posted April 27, 2010 I will be getting something like this for my 4H group. We shoot muzzleloaders with patched round balls and when shooting 100 meters a side wind plays hec with them. If you know the average wind speed it will help you determine drift. I was useing a barrowed one the other day and with a 15 mph side wind we would have about 20 inches of drift at 100 meters. (50cal with 60gr FFF) dm

My impression was that it just detected which direction the wind was blowing. I could be wrong i will have to check the website. I know they do make different ones that will let you get a wind speed, and i know they are great for shooting long range where you need to know what the crosswind is. I will check it out. Garage Logic Report post Posted April 28, 2010 I think Str8Shot uses this gadget on his hunts a lot. Personally, I think he crosses the line with its use. Since I disagree with their use, I must call for all of these instruments to be outlawed.
