shooterpar Report post Posted April 22, 2010 hey guys, my stepdad drew the late muzzleloader tag right before thanksgiving. we've never layed a foot in this unit but plan on doing lots of scouting. was wondering if anyone could maybe narrow down the scouting a little, i've read the game and fish areas to look at. how's the woolhouse habitat area? seems the game and fish put a lot of emphasis on this area. we would rather get away from the crowds and be in a little less elk than be around everyone else. is it safe to assume that the northern 3rd of the unit is lower elevations and glassable? will i find elk up there even if they have not migrated out of the southern part of the unit? any help would be so greatly appreciated -bob
elkhunter Report post Posted April 22, 2010 It's been a few years since I've been in that area, however I know the northern third portion of the unit has more glassing areas. If game and fish dpt recommend a spot for hunting, don't avoid it due to several people, just work harder in that one particular area than most people will. There won't be many muzzy hunters on your pops hunt so competition won't be high. It probably will take you about an hour to figure out where you guys will want to hunt as you drive around the unit. It ain't as glassable as 6a but still a few spots are good for glassing. Might want to send a pm to WHT MTNMAN, he grew up in the area, nice fellow, he'll give you some description about the unit
