outdooraz Report post Posted April 15, 2010 Looking for a youth 7mm-08 for my son who drew a 4A cow tag this year. Not brand specific. Thanks
sjvcon Report post Posted April 17, 2010 I don't have one to sell, but one to recommend you try to find. I bought my son a Ruger Mod 77 / Mark II Compact in 7mm-08. Trigger job and muzzle break later, and the thing is an absolute TACK DRIVER. I thought it would be a little less accurate with a short barrel, but man was I wrong, and with the break it kicks like a .22-250 at the most. Never thought I'd like a Ruger Rifle as well as my trusted Winchesters, but I was wrong.
GameHauler Report post Posted April 18, 2010 Best Youth cartridge made. Mine is not for sale, Sorry One in the middle. Shut up Lark
DesertBull Report post Posted April 18, 2010 I recommend either the Remington Model 7, the Savage Youth 100 or the Tikka T3 lite. The Tikka is not a "youth" rifle per se, but is very lite and easy to handle and the bolt is eceptionally easy to cycle. The Rem and the Sav will need trigger work but the Tikka trigger is pretty nice right out of the box.

outdooraz Report post Posted April 18, 2010 Thanks for the information. Has anyone looked at the new Marlin bolt actions? Their youth rifle looks and feels pretty good.

lionhunter Report post Posted April 18, 2010 I bought a Marlin XS-7 for my boys (9 years old) I looked long and hard at the 7mm-08, but got them the .243. I honestly think it it the best rifle for the money I guy can get" no bs... I figured the gun was cheap and would be lucky to shoot a 2 inch group at best.... I was sssooooooo wrong. I was out the door for under $300 with rings and bases and the gun shoots sub 1 inch 5 shot groups at 100 yards. I recomend it highly... Whitey
outdooraz Report post Posted April 18, 2010 Thanks for Marlin vote Whitey. My son drew a 4A cow tag this year and I don't think his 243 is the ticket for the hunt so I started looking at the 7mm-08. Bear Mountain in Mesa has the Marlin youth model for $314 + Uncle Sam's charge. I think that might be my best bet.
