GRONG Report post Posted August 16, 2005 I found a pretty decent set today while I was bear scouting/shed hunting today. I'd guess them to be in the 92-93" range. I found the first one and made a big circle looking around and finally went back to where I'd found the first one. I then headed to a small saddle about 40 yards away and I hadn't gotten but 15 yards when I spotted a couple tips sticking thru the grass. The match was 20 yards away. Boy that was lucky! Most times I never get too motivated to look for a match because I rarely find them but I guess this set was meant to stay together. I sent the pics to Amanda for her to post soon. Enjoy them. bullwidgeon Report post Posted August 16, 2005 Nope, it's been tough. I have been out looking for 3 afternoons over the last three weeks and found 0 bears. Bret M.
GRONG Report post Posted August 16, 2005 Up here around Camp Verde theres a HUGE crop of acorns on just about every freakin scrub oak and gamble oak in the woods. In 6A the prickly pear fruit is decent but in 21 there seems to be literally hundreds of fruit per cactus. I'm guess another tough year for bear hunting. See you in 27 is my guess Bret. bullwidgeon Report post Posted August 16, 2005 Nah, Not this year. I will be in unit 1 carrying around an antelope decoy while my uncle tries to stick one with an arrow. I was just bumping around the Superstitions and going to try to kill one opening day before I go up North that weekend. Looks like it is all for naught, every acorn in the Superstitions is brown and falling from the tree at the slightest breeze. Then in September I got a NM carp tag and a elk tag like last year. My bear prospects for this year look bleak. Who can complain when there are elk and floppy eared carp to be shot at... You guys knock em dead over in 27 though... Bret M.
