CouesWhitetail Report post Posted April 8, 2010 Last week my husband and I went out to the Black Hills/Guthrie Pass area over by Clifton. It was more than worth it to go!! Miles and miles of poppies in full bloom. So, if you are looking for a place to take the family this weekend, take a nice drive out there in the mid-morning (the poppies close up around 3 pm in the afternoon). It will be stunning! Someone we know was just there yesterday and said it was still awesome! I took some video but haven't had time to edit it. So all you get are pics. To get there go to Safford and then take hwy 191 north toward Clifton. The poppies are in the hills just before you drop into Three-Way. I believe it was mile maker 179. But you can't miss them. If you get to the intersection in Three-Way you went too far.
Snapshot Report post Posted April 8, 2010 Thanks for sharing the pics. I have made the drive through there many times, but mostly in the fall. Those mountains look alot different whenthe flowers are blooming.

I think I had only previously seen those mountains during deer season.

CouesWhitetail Report post Posted April 9, 2010 I heard it was rather colorful around there #9 with Julie in the middle is nice. Yes, thanks for the scoop on that Doug! We went out like the next day after you sent that link. It was amazing! Best flower show I have seen ever! I like that pic of Julie too. Believe me, it's tough to get good pics of her because she doesn't sit still very long! Amanda
Pine Donkey Report post Posted April 9, 2010 Amanda, great pictures. I showed them to my wife who loved them, but she was really impressed you could get your dog to sit still long enough to take a picture. She is only able to get "action" shots of our dogs. Non-Typical Solutions Report post Posted April 9, 2010 Amanda, We saw the same thing and when my twelve year old reminded me that Grandma(passed away last March of 09) sure loved the poppies I told him that God had put Grandma in charge of the watering this year and that is why the poppies are out so good. She grew up in the Virden/Duncan area and just loved the poppies. Thanks for the pics they are awesome.............

FYI - My husband is out there today (4/12) and says the poppies are still amazing. He also said I had the wrong mile marker. It's mile marker 149. CouesWhitetail Report post Posted April 12, 2010 Yes, Julie does have a great smile! And for those wondering, the new dog (Sunshine) was at the vet that day getting spayed, so that's why she isn't in any of the pics. But she got to go out there today so she will enjoy that.
