LYONKILL33 Report post Posted April 8, 2010 Has anyone who uses the free version of google earth noticed changes? Im not sure if they have changed it or ive missed something.....but for whatever reason, i cannot figure out how to get the tanks and water sources names displayed! There are other things different also but this one is the most frusterating to me! It used to be easy but ive searched for an hour and can't figure it out! Call me a cheap- skate but the free version was kinda handy!

rclouse79 Report post Posted April 8, 2010 I noticed the same thing. Now I have been making up names for the new tanks I find. Stinkhole gulch and Desert Gem look to hold the most promise so far.
rogeti Report post Posted April 9, 2010 I just noticed it the other day and looked it up... the option to have that was in the LAYERS part under the "places of interest". Well Google thought people would like it better if they didnt have that and they consolidated the places of interest in to one thing. You used to be able to expand it and see the names of mountains, hills, springs, and tanks. Personally i HATE THIS I WANT IT BACK. I Google searched it and you can suggest to Google to get it back. LYONKILL33 Report post Posted April 9, 2010 That would be awesome if they changed it back! I hate it right now, loved it the way it was!
WinMag Report post Posted April 9, 2010 If you use Google Earth in conjunction with Garmin Map Source you have the best of both worlds. Map Source will give you all that info in topo and then you can view it in Google in Satellite imagery.
scoutm Report post Posted July 19, 2010 Anyone find a solution to tanks not being marked anymore? I did find one "places of interest" function that marks some tanks but you have to click on a link to get the name of the tank and there are far more not marked than are. Thanks for any insight. WadeNAZ Report post Posted July 20, 2010 I think this might be my brothers link on GE forum. I am not sure if he has gotten an accurate response. Overlaying a topo seems to be the workaround for this issue. http://bbs.keyhole.com/ubb/ubbthreads.php?...rue#Post1348996

Bucks_N_Yotes Report post Posted July 20, 2010 Who has tryed the paid version of Google Earth? If so, whats different, and what do you get?
Str8Shot Report post Posted July 20, 2010 Who has tryed the paid version of Google Earth? If so, whats different, and what do you get? Nothing really when it comes to layers .... you can try the free trial of pro but the details are not there..... It is not just tank names that are no longer shown but also smaller roads ... and most geographic names of mountains ( still a few large ones) , washes , canyons, creeks, flats and the list goes on .... the topo over lay is cool since it has the entire country but has limitations on printing have not figured out yet how to get a good print from it ...
