HB2543 made the Fox news tonight

Recommended Posts

John Hook and Kari Lake mentioned that the Governor signed into law 2 new Gun Rights bills. A personal favorite of mine and one that I've been following is House Bill 2543 Preemptive Sub-jurisdiction. John and Kari said the law will allow CCW owners to carry firearms into parks. Many parks in Phoenix and Glendale already allowed CCW owners to carry in parks. HB2543 states a few things, but in a nut shell, does not allow a sub-jurisdiction to enact any laws to supersede state law with regards to certain aspects of firearms, their transportation, ammunition, reloading components, gun shops and ranges, and (my personal favorite) hunting.

You see, my friends wanted to take me dove hunting in the desert in unit 39 & 41. Supposedly, this is an ultra secret spot ... ooops. Anyway I called the City of Buckeye to ask where the city boundaries were and the clerk said that hunting is not allowed anywhere in the city. I agreed, but asked my question again about where is the city boundary? She said she didn't have a map and it didn't matter because beyond the city limit was Maricopa country and they were even more restrictive.

I knew for a fact she was not correct but decided to make a couple of calls. G&F verified that those units are in the city limits of Buckeye but weren't sure where the boundary was and hunters were to respect all local laws. Maricopa County said their policy falls in line with G&F (i.e. 1/4 mile from the nearest residence).

HB2543, I don't believe its an emergency bill so, although signed today will be enacted in 90 days. It states that G&F determines where hunting may occur in the State of Arizona. Now they could come back and say "these are the boundaries and you will not hunt there", but that's better then "You can't hunt within city limits and no I don't know where it ends". Local jurisdictions can still and are expected to enforce State gun laws.
