Looking to buy a .17hmr

Recommended Posts

Does anyone have a favorite model in .17hmr?

How is the savage?

Is the Sweet 17 Scope worth a darn?

Thanks

Ive got the cabelas combo, They are varieties of 9317 and the pineridge 17 turret. Its not as accurate as some turrets Ive used but its pretty dang close. You can get a thubmbhole or hollow rear laminate with a bull barrel and the scope on sale @ cabelas for 400$ They go onsale every once in a while. The 17 I have is the most accurate gun I own out too 100 or so. At 50yds i could shoot flys off the target i think. The hardest part of shooting one is the windage. But that gets to be pretty fun on real windy day trying to dope the wind right. Savage is definately the way to go. I researched alot and they were the best bang for the buck. I have a gray thumbhole laminate w/ a black heavy barrel. I was never a big fan of stainless but Cabelas had this one without stainless. Good luck!

If you need a left handed model I know of one for sale at a great price. It has taken many of those grey's you are after and does a pretty good job with the fur

I love this caliber. I bought the savage. That was before you could get the adj trigger in a stock gun. I Put a Rifle basix sear in and it has been awesome.

I would not go with the sweet 17 scope. Check the reviews on it from hardcore .17 shooters and most quickly upgrade that have purchased it. I would look for something with higher power. At least 12 or 14x. It is so accurate I would not be limited by 9X power.

I have bought a rimfire scope with good luck from https://www.airgunsofarizona.com/ Keeping the $$$ in the copper state :)

We shoot small targets (shotgun hulls, .45 brass etc.) at 125yds+ without adequate magnification it is not nearly as fun.

Good luck with whatever you end up with and have fun.
