JimmyHat Report post Posted August 11, 2005 I am planning on going out to hunt deer and possibly javelina in January of this year in 36A,B,C. Just how bad are these units as far as the border jumpers and drug dealers? I read the thread about the guy being murdered in 34. I want to know if it's even worth it. I know there are law officers here on this site, And those that will not agree with me and may get mad at me for doing so. So I will just say it. Even during archery season I have one some place on me. It is my life to protect. There can not be a law man behind every bush to help you when in need. Just my 2 cents Right or wrong. hime Report post Posted August 12, 2005 I've hunted 35b and 34 on and off for 15 years now and never had any problems. Seen some illegals but they tended to stay as far away from me as possible. Be cautious, wear a gun, go in groups - do all of that, but don't stop going. We are Americans and WE own this realestate. Yeah, we're watching out for them, so they better be watching out for us!! You see something illegal? Report it. Be willing to testify. Follow up. Be a citizen. Be a man. It'll be a sad, sad day when we're too scared to go out in the woods. BASS Report post Posted August 12, 2005 ARIZONA GUIDE, I'm glad you posted this, as I was going to, but thought I would catch a harsh recourse for being a "newer" member. I carry my 1911 on my person anytime I'm out in the feild by myself. It's ussually in my backpack, and stays there until I feel I may need it. As long as there isn't a reason to suspect you have been using a pistol on your archery hunt, the GFD will leave you alone. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

I've got a pop up trailer that would be a cinch to get into so we'll take his trailer since its hard sided. Side arm? You betcha! I might even buy a nice new ultralight .45 with the most knarly flesh destroying round I can get. I just wanted to know if things are as bad as I've heard. As a side note, I live in NM and was hunting S.E. part of the State for javies last february. We're headed out for an afternoon hunt, middle of nowhere desert terrain. Come up over the hill and out there, I mean out there, parked on the side of a dirt road is 4 mexican looking dudes in real nice clothes standing next to 2 new BMW's, a Mercedes and an Audi. daryl_s Report post Posted August 12, 2005 Wow, what an eye-opening article!!! I hunt normally just North of the tres bellotas ranch. Have only been down there once since 2000 but I will be down there for the October hunt this year. In the previous years down there I never even saw an illegal but I know that times are changing and even on my rifle hunt I will more than likely have a pistol with me. Also, I would always be sure to not go alone. I will not stop going down there either, I love it down there and there is excellent deer and javelina hunting also, I'm not going to let them take that away from me. I just wanted to post the article to show people what is really taking place down in those units. By all means, go and enjoy your tag. I know I will be. I really encourage everyone who hunts down in the 36 units to pack a pistol with them at all times and try to camp near the major roadways. Also, if at all possible, camp in groups, ie have several camps in one small localized area. No one should ever have any trouble in those units if ya just use a little common sense. I'll be out there on our Oct. hunt. Stop by and have a beer or 2. We'll be camped off the west side of 286 at mp 8. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
