billrquimby Report post Posted March 26, 2010 I tried it many years ago, using tusks that taxidermist John Doyle supplied. A lot of the tusks split when they dried out after being removed from the jaws. The necklace was too primitive-looking IMO, and I gave up on it before it was finished. Coues Sniper Report post Posted March 26, 2010 I suspect the teeth are so brittle because they were boiled. If you hadn't boiled the skull already and could cut th teeth out (you're ruining the skull anyways) I'd think you'd have more success. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
PSEps Report post Posted March 26, 2010 I think I figured it out. I talked to a long time friend that lives near deming and he told me how to do it. He has several that I did not even know he had. He said if you wrap the top part of the teeth with string (correctly), you shouldnt have any problems with the teeth being too brittle. I'll post some pics as i'm doing it and when it is finished. elkhunter Report post Posted March 31, 2010 I shot a pig in the past in the head with a .300 win mag, so boiling the skull was not an idea, however I collected the canines and tried to make a necklace or a strap for a cowboy hat. Needless to say, they dried out too much and when I tried to grind them down into appropriate size they shattered into several pieces and boy did it stink! Whatever you do, don't use a grinder, use drill bits instead and be sure to glue up any cracks for they break apart pretty easy, goodluck Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
