GRONG Report post Posted March 22, 2010 Watched this bull 2 weekends ago and couldn't believe he was still packin. Guessed him around 360" as a 7x7. Waited the bulls out so that a majority of them had dropped and snuck in there Friday morning and within an hour I had his right side finally!! Took the ritualistic pics and video then continued my search for the match. The brush was so deep but I weaved my way through everywhere I thought an elk would and might walk. About 5 minutes later I spotted a tine sticking about 3' up but a couple feet below the surface of the brush. Got all pumped and ran back over to the other one to get the video camera out of my pack not 25 yards away and got back over there only to find out it was another right side off a different bull!!! Excited but half discouraged cause I wanted the set so bad and now I had 2 more to find. Well I pounded the brush back and forth for a couple hundred yards back and forth for the next 2 hours thinking I'd walked just about everywhere I thought I could but couldn't come up with either of the matches! So I walked off into some other country I thought might hold some fresh elk horn. A few hours later I found another nice 350 class 6pt and spent about an hour workin the slopes in every direction I could and couldn't come up with that one either! Sorry no ATL pic for this one as it was to graphic, wouldn't want any lurkers to figure me out. Found several older horns that I just hung up during the day but nothing I felt like hauling out. Here's the day's total of brown horn. Totaled 28lbs in 3 horns so that was a heck of an avg for me. Went back the next day and pounded the same ol country thinkin this time I'd pull out the matches to some of the 3 I'd found but it wasn't to be. I'll try it again soon for sure so stay posted. Scored the 7pt shed, giving it a 15" G1 and guessin the unfound match, according to pics, the set with a 35" spread goes right around 365". New info as of 4/8/10.......... I've been in and out of that spot 7 times this spring so far and have spent many many hours searching for the mates to the antlers posted above and finally this past Friday I found the match to the last skinny antler posted. It was maybe 75 yards from the match I'd found a month ago and I know I walked within 10-15 yards of it without seeing the dang thing. Here it is.... Bummer it's broke though. WFGinNM Report post Posted March 22, 2010 That's a great day Josh, hard to sleep knowing there are 3 matches sitting there somewhere. A few years ago I was in a pretty popular area and found a right and a left almost on top of each other next to a bed, each had six points so I figured they where a set. When I got home I realized they were off different elk. Wish I would have taken the time to see it while I was on the mountain, I would have spent time looking for matches. Keep posting, --Bill
