Bowfishin'

Recommended Posts

It's been years since the last time I bowfished off the boat, and last Monday I illustrated how much I had forgotten about deep water shootin'! Mjmhunter (Manny) had never been bowfishing so this was gonna be fun! Not 5 minutes after arriving at our first spot, a carp came flying by in shallow water and Manny instictively nailed it with his first ever shot at a fish! We both thought with this early success that our trash bags would be full of carp in no time! Boy were we wrong! After that first fish we realized most of the fish were in the muddy water which is full of branches and sticks which aren't too friendly to a boat that costs 3 times more than my truck! With the lake level so high the shoreline is full of trees and stumps so we were forced to hunt deeper water which had better visibility but we were forced to shoot deeper which is A LOT harder! We each launched at least 100 shots throughout the day but by the time we gave up we only had 11 carp in the boat...pathetic! Using recurves didn't help us with shooting deep, but I've already got the Matthews rigged up and I guarantee those bass egg eatin' suckers are in trouble next time! ;)

We planned on taking pictures of the pile at the end of the day, but by that time we were too tired so we just chucked em' and i never got anymore pics. We did get mostly 8-10 pounders, biggest was probably pushin' 15lbs.

Here's Manny's first archery fish.....

Another of Manny texting while driving...very dangerous!

Takin' pics of myself is the only way to prove I was there :( :P The hoodie helps block more sun off your glasses to see in the water better, didn't help my shooting though ;)

Ready to hunt!

Better buy a truck worth more than $1000.00 Bud :o

Just kidding my friend, glad you had a good time.

No worries Manny, It's just $

The problem is that it's my dad's boat!!! If it were my boat we would've been doing some 4 wheelin' to get to those fish! I've put 2 other expensive boats that were mine into the grave over the years chasin' fish.....or showin' off for the ladies back in the day ;) Just can't do that with Popps boat......and there were'nt any ladies to show off for on Monday anyways

I kept telling Manny how fast this boat is, so he was driving it to see for himself, I don't think he was dissappointed, that boat flat out boogies!

Hey Mike, Manny was telling me about a boat you were selling. I can't find it in the classifieds, is it posted on this site?

Yeah, I've always wanted to experience that tourney there! Please send me the flyer, Manny was going to check at the archery shop to see if they had any info on it, Thanks! I've never seen, or noticed, a buffalo carp at Pleasant, always thought they didn't have em there? I used to be die hard into bowfishing, it's a blast! I'm hoping to get as much of it in this season as I can!

If that flyer is on email I'll get it here: jkmullins@cox.net

we were fishing at roosevelt 2 weekends ago and there was a carp bowfishind tourney goin on man there must of been 300 boats rigged with shooting platforms and big galvanized stock tanks to put the carp in ,i asked one of the guys what they did with the fish after weigh in,and he said he wasnt supposed to really tell anyone but they donated the fish to rubios fish taco shop,so next time u eat there the regular fish tacos are carp, for your info.
