Whats Up with this. Left over tags

Recommended Posts

:P  ;) Whats up with the draw this year. I cant even draw a leftover 30B tag. I even put in with my brother-in-law from Wisconsin. Thank fully I do have a couple of kids to take out hunting. Two for deer and one for cow elk. I wish I could make the meeting this week end in Flagstaff to try and find out what is going on with the draws. This is the first year that I have totally been shut out of any tags. What are your fealings about going back to the computor draw?

The computer was nice, but it was too nice. There were many times we were trying to put in our apps about 30 min before they were due. It is nice to be able to do that, but if it wasn't there we would have been one less group trying to get "your tags." Not to mention all of the out of staters that can do the same thing that we did. If they missed the post mark date, and still had their apps, they could just log in, and put in for the draw. Where now they would miss it all together. The GFD is still letting you know if something on the app isn't right, but you have to have your apps in by a certain date to know or not.

The long-hand apps allow us better draw odds. Although it may not seem like it to some of you this year, I was talking to a G&F officer a while back and he said the odds went up "significantly" because of the suspension of internet apps. Like BASS said, the internet was nice, but too easy for EVERYONE to put in. That of course lowers your draw odds. I'd give up convinience any day if that meant giving me a sliver of an advantage to draw a Dec coues tag or an archery bull tag. But that's just me. I thought is was a great idea to make us pay upfront and make a license mandatory. Ya gotta pay to play. I know, that part can become real controversial, but the bottom line is this: when you require $$$ upfront, we will see a decrease in "weekend warriors", and the true hunters will get more tags. Oh, that's us! There were alot of people putting in with internet apps because it was so easy and only costed $5! Good luck next year in the draw!

I don't mind the money up front. I just wonder if I did something wronge on the paper app's. Out of 15 applications for my family we only got one youth deer tag. Thats not counting the three app's for leftover tags. They need to come up with a way to still charge upfront to eliminate the "weekend waryours"

The old saying "don't fix it if it ain't broken" applies here. I wish they had never gone to the computer application process. Hopefully they will never go back.

I heard that they want to go back to it, if you guys can go to the azgfd meeting in flagstaff go and let them know that it worked fine this year, even if I didn't get an elk tag again. Maybe somebody knows when they are going to have a meeting in phoenix, I heard they weren't happy with the amount of non resident apps., so it seems like they made up for it by giving them a high percentage of the tags. I would like to see the final tallies on resident v non-resident percentages, apps submitted and drawn. With outfitters like uso filling out and sending in their clients apps., I wonder if the only people being eliminated are the weekend warriors and the do it yourself non-residents. No matter how they figure it they need to put the hammer down on uso just for what they did.

The online draw WILL be back in place next year, and have heard from reliable source that they want to eliminate the paper apps. alltogether, and, do away with the upfront fees. This is all going to be determined shortly, probably at the next few commish meetings. The paper apps. and the upfront fees are the reason any of us got tags at all this year, IMO. If they do those two things - back to online draw and no up-front fees, ALOT of AZ residents will be sitting on the sidelines in the years to come. Doing away with the upfront fees and reinstituting the online draw will allow the casual hunters res. and non-res. alike back into the pool. These are guys that apply only because it is cheap and convenient and very easy, not because they really want to go. Eliminating the upfront fees will make it easier for families to afford the application process every year but at the cost for all of us, of rarely being able to pull a permit. I thought we had already solved this problem with all the work and lobbying that alot of sportsmen, conservation groups put in this last year? What gives ? They said they want to protect the rights of Resident sportsmen and women, they must make a heck of alot of money on those $5 online app. fees. Like I said, all this will be decided at the next few Commission meetings, if you care at all one way or the other you better get you butts to the upcoming Commissh meetings and voice your concerns, if you don't it will be decided for you.

They save money by not sending out pink slips, they will save money by not printing any apps and envelopes, they are going to raise all the fees, plus the 5.00 application fee they take anyway, you know they will still make you buy a license to apply, and they will not make a 10 percent rule because they will make way to much money by not doing it, and they will use the court ruling or future litigation as their excuse. I thought we had stated our case last year and they told us all that they wanted our input, so quickly they forget, a bunch of greedy politicians out for themselves and screw the average guy. If this happens that uso group will have won again and they didn't even use lawyers this time, residents or money and we know what the politicians will pick.

Just wanted to throw my 2-cents in here. Take it or leave it.

At the last ADA meeting the G & F rep. stated that there was only a few thousand less Big-Game applicants this year as compared to last year's computerized draw. They feared it would be far worse.

A lot of us didn't get drawn because of the relaxation of the non-resident quotas. This coming year I expect quotas to be back in force. This should increase our odds on primo hunts vs. non-residents again. However it could mean an increase in "weekend warrior" applicants. Then again, they rarely kill anything anyway. More critters will survive for me to hunt the next year. As long as they don't poach or cheat like USO I can live with some resident "weekend warriors" getting drawn on occasion.

If they bring back the computer draw and get rid of upfront fees I won't be happy but I will draw better than most weekend warriors. Because I do my homework and I will keep on doing it.
