willhunt4coues Report post Posted April 4, 2010 Broadheads with the extra Blade (razor) at the tip really help with cutting into thick hydes like elk. I use Easton Axis 400 arrows with Carbon Express Troika ST3. Look them up the FLY very accurate and cut AWESOME. I shot my buck this year with that broadhead and man it sure did a great job. The manufactures wouldn't produce difference spines if it did not make a difference.... I can remember the first animal I killed with a bow....my bow was probably 2 inches too long in draw length, my arrows were bought on clearance based on price not what was correct and my broadheads were taken from my father in laws archery box....that setup killed it dead as dead....but could have been disastrous .... bowhunter4life Report post Posted April 6, 2010 Find a bow you have confidence in, shoot all distances. most carbon arrows with a 100 grain fixed blade will work. make sure to practice with your hunting set up, shoot your broadhead setup daily and before you go out into the field replace the blades with new razor sharp blades. try icc 340 grain arrows with a 100 grain muzzy, shoot 58-65 pound and you will be fine. have a minimum 20, 30 and 40 yard pin but make sure you can shoot consistant at those distances, one step by an elk and he just moved 3' the most important part is to practice shooting, shoot some more then shoot some more. wackycouesaddict Report post Posted April 7, 2010 re:Hey Derek I am replying to your reply just as an FYI...... you have stated your setup works great for you...... But I believe with that setup the 200 pros would be a better spined arrow, the 300's are stiffer arrow and your draw weight is a little light for the 300. Take a look at the PSE spine chart. Plus since I have almost the exact setup and entered the bow specs into the Archer's Advantage program, it also lists the 200 as the optimum arrow i was speaking of this but i do understand what your saying my uncle killed his cow at fourty with the same set up but shooting a outback ant sixty poumds. Thye charts are not always true they change from year to year but thats just my opnion ill shoot wat shoots best out of my bow. the
