3 inch mag for 12 guage

Recommended Posts

A quick question to those smarter than I:

I have a Mossberg 12 guage pump chambered fro 2 3/4 inch shells and 3 inch shells. My question is the following: Is it ok to use the 3 inch #4 Buck Shot Magnum loads in this shotgun? If not...what could happen to the barrel/action/gun? Thank you in advance!

I have been using #4 shot, 3 inch magnum shells in my mossberg pump for turkeys for years.

"magnum" loads have more powder in em. look at the brass base. the higher the brass, the more powder it has in it. 3 inch shells typically have a little more powder and a little more shot that 2 3/4 inch. same with the newer 3 1/2 inch shells. they're a little hotter still than 3 inchers. your gun will be safe to shoot any factory load in whatever chamber it has.
