COUESAZ Report post Posted August 9, 2005 This pack also packs your bow very well and if you are needing more room for stuff in your pack you can buy this insolated hydration blader made by camelpack from rei for around 30.00 bucks and it clips to the out side of the back ver easy with the bow straps. DEERSLAM Report post Posted August 9, 2005 My deal is where you going to put your deer or elk quarter. I like to hunt away from the crowds. Example, on my last coues hunt I had my masterguide pack with all my gear. After I got my buck I had to take my pack and rifle down the mountain drop them off in the brush (wouldn't you know it when I got back up the mountain I looked back and saw a group of 7 illegals walk within 20yds of my stuff, but thats a different story and a lesson learnd) walk all the way back up throw the deer over my shoulders and walk all the way back. Dragging the deer wasn't much of an option with all the various cacti. Bottom line is I'm looking for a pack to get me to a spot to spend most of the day and get my game or part of it back with me. If I'm going to still hunt or move often I use a fannypack as I don't want anything in the way if I have to shoulder my gun quickly. I appreciate everyones input so far, thanks all. BASS Report post Posted August 9, 2005 DEERSLAM, I think the first pack in this thread is what you are looking for. If I was going to hunt like that, that is the pack I would choose.
rabidApache Report post Posted August 15, 2005 I personnally use the Mega Pack from Cabela's. I believe it was designed by Dwight Schuh, the whole design of the pack is centered around an external flexible frame. Two major compartments, top and bottom(fanny pack). I don't know the cubic size when used in conjuction but I can tell ya that it packs alot of gear. I have in the past only used the fanny pack (1800 cu in)attached to the frame. Its plenty big enough to carry my equipment and with plenty of lashing points for other add-ons if need be(water bags, rain gear etc..). I also carry two rice bags and straps for securing meat and cape. The rice bags can be picked up at any hardware/feed store place. The straps I use were designed for rafting, has a buckle on one end and is super strong. Straps can be bought in many sizes. I carry two 6 footers. I use one bag to debone meat on and the other you simply put the carved meat into. I have carried out an entire elk hind 1/4 before deboned ~ 45-50 lbs. I sure ya could easy stuff a WT into one bag. The ricebag w/ meat simply is straped onto the frame and haul out. Check it out, I believe it go's for about $160.
BowhuntCoues Report post Posted August 16, 2005 Deerslam, I also have the Badlands 2200 and really like it, very comfortable. I've had a completly boned coues in it a few times with all my other hunting stuff. We need you to start boning in the field, the coyotes need a bone to eat too. But it sounds like you have a fuller pack then me, you might look at the 4400.
DEERSLAM Report post Posted August 16, 2005 I ended up buying the Eberlestock Just one. It's very comfortable. I like the option of the backscabbard to get my gun out of my hands when not needed and the center compartment that expands to hold meat (it also has a mesh panel for air flow to cool meat). It also has a lifetime warranty and little extras like light colored pockets so you can actually see your gear in the pack instead of trying to find a black flashlight in a black pocket (not a big deal but if they put that much thought into the inside color of the pack). I'm taking it on a scouting trip this weekend and will let you all know how it works out, minus the meat part.
BASS Report post Posted August 17, 2005 Alright! Glad to hear you picked it up. You should go shoot a 'yote and see how it packs it out.
DEERSLAM Report post Posted August 17, 2005 The rifle and calls are already packed, the dogs need some serious thinning out were I'm going. Just need to watch my back cause there is also a high density of lions!
