CouesWhitetail Report post Posted March 9, 2010 This is the part that caught my attention....I wonder what statistics they are using? Is that some sort of worldwide estimate and how is that being made? It certainly is not true for AZ....one poached animal for every one shot legally??? "Citing wildlife statistics, the Humane Society says that for every one of the tens of millions of animals killed legally every year, another is killed illegally. Meanwhile, the group estimates that only 1 percent to 5 percent of poachers are caught." Nice comments TLH!!! Amanda
couesdiehard Report post Posted March 11, 2010 What would be a good reward per head of mindless, statistic-inventing, human-hating, Humane Society member? For everyone you killed legally your public school would produce 10 more.
billrquimby Report post Posted March 12, 2010 Funny how bad survey results hang around long after they've been debunked in peer reviews. The one-to-one ratio for legal and illegal kills probably came from a study done in New Mexico in the late 1970s or early 1980s that concluded exactly that. A few months later, the study was found to have serious holes and that grossly inflated the illegal kill rate. A similar study in Colorado, I think it was, at about the same time claimed that wounding loss from all sources -- archery, rifle, handgun and muzzleloader -- equaled the legal kill, and this also was found to be in error. The interesting thing to me about the Republic story is that it appears to have originated with HSUS. Wonder what that devious group is planning now?
