John O Report post Posted March 5, 2010 Thought I would share some photos to help pass some time in the off-season. First photo is of a cow I passed in 36a during the Dec. archery hunt. If I ever think I have had a bad day, I think of this guy. Someone (or something) always has it worse. Second photo is of a little owl that was sitting about 3 feet off a dirt road in 33. I thought it was a statue or toy of some sort, so I stopped and backed up to take a closer look. He had his eyes closed, and I walked slowly up to it with my camera, and took these photos from about 5 feet away. It then slowly opened one eye, then the other, looked at me for a few seconds and flew off. I would be interested in what kind of owl this is. Anyway, enjoy! Coach Report post Posted March 5, 2010 Cool pix. I'm pretty sure that's a Western Screech Owl. We had one hanging in the back yard in hollow tree this fall - very cool little owl.

stanley Report post Posted March 5, 2010 That cholla can be NASTY!! The deer in 36A love to eat the stuff though! I've seen plenty of deer down there with cholla on & around their nose/mouth. I would have to be VERY hungry to eat a cholla!!! OUCH!! S.
youngbuck Report post Posted March 5, 2010 Maybe its a moisture thing. Ive seen cattle and deer eat cholla, different places and different times of year. Maybe they only do it when its full of water Still i dont know why they would, there should be water all over now
ac guy Report post Posted March 6, 2010 I too saw the same in 32 but.........they were stuck on a bulls.......bullness Like what you see hanging from the hitch of a big truck Why do people do that? Do they know how retarded they look? If you think the torque of your truck makes you a better man, you need to go back to the 8th grade.

bowsniper Report post Posted April 5, 2010 Ever see the picture of that quad rider that hit a cholla? OUCH!! Found it! http://woa2.com/beware-of-the-cactus/ We need to get cholla growing in the forest. Maybe we would have a few less renegade quad trails! Coach Report post Posted April 5, 2010 Ouch! I heard of ATV'rs getting wrapped up in cholla and stumbling out looking like a teddy bear, but wow - that poor gal had to be in some serious pain. One of those nasty cactus heads is incredibly painful and hard to get out. Not to hijack the thread, but I've chased quail into some cholla that look like stag's head- kinda spindly, low-to-the-ground and unassuming and have little red berries or fruits on them. I STILL have scars on my hands and wrists 15 years later from those things. You get poked and it seems like any other cactus, but they turn into these burning little sores that scar up something horrible like mini snake bites - anybody know what those lilttle suckers are?
