Who's got Direct TV????

Recommended Posts

So I recently moved, and Cox Cable does not service my new area. Due to that, I was 'forced' to finally make the switch to satelite. I went with Direct TV, and as a result have been watching plenty of the Outdoor Channel, The Sportsman Channel, etc..

As with most sports channels (Versus for instance, which I no longer get...) there are some pretty decent programs, and some VERY lame ones!!

One guy who captured my attention is Jim Burnworth (Western Extreme & Adventures Abroad). Seems like a pretty cool guy with a good head on his shoulders. Seems like a guy I would like to hunt with.

My least favorite shows are the ones where it's basically an infomercial for hunting property & land leases! There was also a show shot in Canada, where they dubbed the voices over the actual hunting footage. Not like a narration, but they actually were trying to mimick the voices in the field, etc. VERY funny, but not entertaining at all!!

Anyone have any MOST and LEAST favorite hunting shows/hosts???

Just killing time until turkey season.... ;)

I loved all the huntin and fishin shows. I hated the fees and contracts they didn't tell my wife about when she had it connected  . My inlaws had some problems with them too.

Burnworth turns my stomach. He likes to hunt behind fences.

There are many complaints and some class action law suits against Directv. They are notorious about not telling the customers at sign up of contracts that are basically setup like cellular phones. They must have taken a page from the cellular companies about early termination fee's.

Watch your bill closely and challenge everything. Especially after you first sign up.

I heard some of these issues are being challenged in court.

Never allow Directv to set you up on automatic payments from your bank account. There are horror stories of people on the internet who cancelled their service and Directv dipped into their bank accounts in the amount of $900.00 for equipment costs.

Directv is one of the communication giant's that need a good slappin by the fed's.

Yes, I have gone a couple rounds with Directv. They are another sleazy Corporate giant that likes to take advantage of consumers.

Sorry for the rant!

On a happier note, Directv does have the best channels, outdoor included. But I can go the rest of my life without seeing another eastern whitetail or turkey hunting show ;)

I like most of the shows on the Outdoor Channel (Cox). My number one favorite is Best of the West. Least favorite is Snow Tracks.

Direct Tv has lost its customer service over the last few years. I dread having to call them. Although some really make an effort to help but most do not.

As far as shows, Burnworth to me is a spoiled brat. I like Arrow Affliction alot and Predator Nation and Predator Quest. Channel 608 blows most of the time with all the paid progamming it shows. Fishing shows are quite boring to me. Versus had some good shows until Direct tv quit showing it.

I am a home inspector and it drives me nuts when I see all the homes that have satellite hooked up with all the wires running around the exterior with holes drilled through the walls. Just use the stinking cable lines. That is the main reason I haven't changed over yet. Hunting shows or not. I'm not letting them run 200' of cable all over my house.

Yes, 608 blows!!! Lots of 'paid programming' there....

Interesting with the different views on Burnworth. I've seen his show, and his buddy's Africa show, and I tend to like them.... All a matter of taste I suppose. ;) Also, I wasn't aware that he hunts high fences. I guess that I don't really hold that against anyone, as long as they admit it, are not ashamed, and don't try to pawn those 'trophies' off as fair chase.

I agree that Pigman is also a good show. Arrow Affliction also is pretty decent IMO.

AZbowhntr you don't need to have a bunch of cables running on the exterior of the house depending on the age of the house... Majority of homes built in the last 10 years use RG6 cable to the utility outside the house and with the use of a multi-switch you can run all the feeds in the house for multiple receivers using the pre-installed runs that run through the house just replace the switch in the cable utility(if it is not a newer switch from cox) and the dish runs to the box outside the home and there are many ways (none that will be included in a free hookup) to make sure cables are not seen .... In the early days the quality of installs and what techs would do with the installs was much better than today but there are ways .... In older homes with runs of rg45 the low dc voltage that controls the LNB in the dish does not travel well and in long runs will not usually work so in those cases fishing new lines or exterior wall punches are the choices you have and most do not want to go through the cost or hassle of fishing lines...
