Weston Report post Posted February 23, 2010 My 2010 Javelina hunt begun on friday and I was able ot harvest saturday. This year I was drawn in a unit I had not hunted before but put in with a buddy from school, we did no first hand scouting but got info from a realitive of his who had. Friday morning we got up nice and early and headed out, 2 miles into a canyon we glassed wednesday and thursday we spotted a heard of about 25 pigs, 300 yards away on a ridge but none of them offered a good shot oppertunity. We didntget on any more pigs for the rest of friday. On saturday again we were in the same canyon well before first light and were hoping to glass some javelinas up before they got out of their beds, untill we started getting hammered with rain. We took shelter under a rocky outcropping and continued glassing for a while untill the rain got fairly miserable, so we headed back to camp for breakfast. Later that afternoon the rain slowed to a drizzle so we got back out there, glassed up the pigs across a dirt road about 950 yards away so we hiked out to my jeep where we tried to get right behind them, we got out n the road jumped out, after trailing them a mile and a half or so we finally were able to get a shot, I took the largest javelina in the herd at 80 yards clean heart shot, was a tough hunt with a lot of work but it paid off.
