lilcoues Report post Posted February 17, 2010 Hi all, new to site and just looking for some basic info. I drew a spring bear tag for the southern part of Arizona. Not looking for any spots and having never hunted bears before, any help on hunting style or special gear used would help out. Thanks, lilcoues
ehunt Report post Posted February 17, 2010 I hunted spring bear one year down by Safford. What i found it is the later in the season the better your chance of seeing a bear especially if there is alot of snow still on the mountain. Also the bears will be looking for grass to eat so they can pass the plug that they built up for hibernation. As for hunting them your best bet is going to be checking for sign and spending alot of time glassing for bears. hope this helps.
Snapshot Report post Posted February 17, 2010 3 years ago I saw a huge boar down at the base of the Mountains in 34A about a mile west of Helvetia. He was almost out into the flats. He was big! Same year I also saw a nice boar down in 35B, in Providencia canyon, but it was in October.
DesertBull Report post Posted February 18, 2010 Once the temps get into the 90's and above, the desert bears will spend most of the day very close to water. Not just to drink either. They like to get in the water in the middle of the day to cool off.
