Bleaching Skulls?

I have a friend that used pool chlorine mixed with water and his skulls come out white and then he puts clear coat spray paint on it. I have to say I think its crazy the way he does it but his skulls are very nice

I have spent a lot of time on a taxidermy website and there are many people who soak skulls in ammonia for the degreasing step. Other things that people use are white fuel, dawn dish soap, acetone, etc. Never heard of it used as the whitening step though, everyone always uses some form of peroxide for that one.
