jwhunter Report post Posted January 30, 2010 I just finished up my built Model 70 300 win mag and looking at scopes to mount. I decided I want the leupold VX3 4.5x14x50 but having a hard time deciding between the LR 30mm tube or the 1 inch tube. I plan on shooting out to ~600-700 yards with it and get the Kenton turrets. If anyone has input between the tubes (pros/cons) it would be greatly appreciated!
Couzer Report post Posted January 30, 2010 You get more clicks on the 30mm tube than a 1 inch! but the 30mm will most likely weigh more. For long distance I would lean to the 30mm. My 2 cents
TAM Report post Posted January 31, 2010 Yes, for long distance the 30 will give you more clicks but for a 600 -700 yard scope you should be just fine with the 1 inch tube. If you were to want to step it up to a 900 -1200 yard scope then you would probably want to consider the 30mm. A lot of it will depend on your bullets tragectory. The flatter it shoots the fewer clicks will be needed at long ranges. The other factor will be where you set your zero. If you plan to zero your rifle at 100 yards then it will take more "up clicks" to dial in 700 yards. If you zero your rifle at 300 yards then it will take fewer "up clicks" to get to 700. Good luck!
