Guest Travis and Bob Report post Posted November 6, 2003 I was wondering if someone is intrested in giving a little input on the late coues hunt in unit 22. I do have a couple of friends that have killed bucks on this unit before but we are looking for some more information. We have never hunted coues before but want to give it a try. Hopefully it will pay off for us. Are open to any suggestions at all. We have heard that this is a good tag to have but we honestly don't know. Its a first for us. coueshunter Report post Posted November 7, 2003 Not to beat a subject too much but instead of being overly concerned about where to go in 22 make sure you are equipped with the right optical gear. Make sure you have a tripod and good bino's preferably 15x's and glass your butt off........I have never hunted 22 but have seen deer from the fish hatchery at tonto creek down to above Roosevelt so of course there are plenty of deer in the unit and lots of access, just get off the road a mile or so and set up early and glass......hope you guys do well.............AT...... Guest Travis and Bob Report post Posted November 7, 2003 I do not own binos that are over ten power, but we do have access to a very nice lica spotting scope. It is very clear and has a super strong tripod with it. I was told by one individual to hunt in a wilderness area in the unit. He has hunted it twice and never seen another hunter in it. He has killed two bucks in the two times he hunted it. I can't remember the name of it but he did walk in some type of trail for about 3 miles. This is one area that we are planning on hunting. In fact if the guy can get the time off of work he is going to come with us. We are planning on coming down at the start of the hunt on the opening weekend then returning Christmas day until the hunt is over. If who ever reads this and replys to it is intrested in joining us and helping we are totally intrested. We don't have money to pay but if intrested in some good hunting buddies and even some input about hunting deer or elk in utah we can help. I know that AZ has great hunting already but if you want to hunt in southern utah anytime we can help. In fact we have killed some nice bucks and bulls in utah, in fact we killed a 419 inch bull this fall. It should be the number 2 non-typical in utah. If you are intrested in helping reply here or even email me at udottravisw@hotmail.com. We do need as much help as we can get.

GRONG Report post Posted November 9, 2003 The wilderness you are talking about is the Mazatzals. Good place to hunt and boy is that place rocky. Be in good shape if you plan on hunting it. There must be a 1000 good places to hunt since that unit is so darn big. Roosevelt, East Verde River, Mazatzals, Christopher Ck, North Pk, just a few areas that are well known for Coues. If you are a big hiker you're going to love it. If weather permits I'd hike into the wilderness way more than 3 miles and try and find a biggin. If you find any sheds, leave them, GPS them and email the coordinates to me please as all sheds in northern AZ are mine, southern AZ too for that matter. Just messing, good luck in 22. Prohunt Report post Posted November 11, 2003 I have to agree with Allen that glassing is the key. Glass until your eyes hurt and then glass some more. One of the main problems with most people glassing is they give up too soon so be patient. I haven't killed any monsters in 22 but I have seen some. Several years ago I killed a 95 inch buck out of the Mazatzal's. Like Josh said it is rocky. Look for a steep, rocky/brushy spot (I just described most of the Mazatzal Mountains) and thats where the big Coues will be. On another note (since you are from Utah) it has cooled down in Az. and has been raining. Hopefully it will be even cooler in Dec. Good luck! Travis
