cbf Report post Posted July 28, 2005 I have always hunted 36b for white tail and have been successful for the past 7-8 years there .My question is i have never really seen any mule deer around there. Is there a good population in this area or are they just in isolated portions of this area. I have seen nice photos at the store and have seen a few nice one that have stopped by town on there way out. thanks chris
bullwidgeon Report post Posted July 28, 2005 I have not been there and looked for muleys in 2 years however, 2 years ago there were quite a few large herds of muleys using the grasslands around the Buenos Aires. They liked the closed hunting zone area around the ranch too. Bret M.
AZKendog Report post Posted July 28, 2005 I've archery hunted down there for 4 or so years and finally took a little two point muley in Jan. Bret is right about the Buenos Aires. That's where we have always hunted and always see muleys. Then again, that was in January when the bucks start showing themselves more. Could be tough to find bucks when they aren't in the rut. gnoto Report post Posted July 28, 2005 There are good heards around Arivaca. Not sure hwo close to town you can bow hunt, but I have seen heards. As soon as you drive through Arivaca. I have seen good population from the corner of town for the first 10 miles down Ruby Road.
More D Report post Posted July 28, 2005 Great advice on this one....as always. I to have chased the muleys in the 36's grasslands. Some days it GREAT the next nothing! stick with it. I too saw a large herd of good looking muleys east of the Buenos Aires house just outside of the boundery (huntable). They might be large in size because they learned to dance on the boundery line. Kendog: Might you show us a pic of your deer, at least to keep the archery fire alive?!? My hunting partner spend alot of Dec/Jan archery season in the hills trying to do what you did last year.
