klondyke aravaipa road, is it still open

Recommended Posts

heading out super early in the morning from the valley and just wanted to make sure that the klondyke road still goes all the through. Haven't been through since that road was closed off years ago. would hate to get there just to find out I have to back track to the I-70 and head all the way to almost Pima and loose hours. Just can't afford to loose any time . thank you.

Met some folks from the Valley at the eastern entrance to Aravaipa Creek last August. They were able to drive south on the Klondyke Rd. from the 70. You might want to call BLM just to make sure: (928) 348-4400.

thanks for the number. just called and spoke to a lady but don't think we're on the same page. she said it is a jeep trail only and I probably couldn't get through and would have to use the klondyke/aravaipa bet ft. thomas and Pima. I just need to know if the klondyke rd. goes through. will be turning at superior towards kearny and turning left at that technical college trying to get through. anybody been there recently? in a 4 whl drive but don't want anything crazy.

if I have to i'll go almost to Pima but was really needing to save time by going the back way.

The road is open from outside of Pima, and from wilcox. If you are talking about going into aravipa canyon it was closed a view years ago. One of the land owners had the gate on their propery locked. I heard if you call her before you go she would let you through. As far as going all the way through the canyon I don't think it can be done. It depends how far you are wanting to go, and I think the best route is through kearny. I also heard that that side gets really rough. Good luck!

If you are trying to go from the college at the mouth of Arivaipa canyon to Klondyke, That road ends at the trailhead to the Aravaipa Wilderness. If you are talking about the Rug road further south down by Mammoth, the turn off from the river road was locked when I went by it last fall and I would not guarantee that it is open. There are no other roads that go from the San Pedro river valley to Klondyke.
