Coues 'n' Sheep Report post Posted January 13, 2010 If $$$ is the issue I'd say 15's and a mid grade spotter for antler evaluation... For me personally you really need the best of both... I never leave home with out my 15's or my Swaro spotter...
BigWave Report post Posted January 13, 2010 Thanks for all of the info guys and gals. I ended up ordering the Minox 15's. Hated the idea of getting rid of the Swaro spotter. I'll see how the Minox's do for me and maybe down the road I can upgrade to TOTL glass on the 15's. Again, thanks!
motoxno53 Report post Posted January 14, 2010 I use both. Would not trade one for the other. They both have a need and I find my self using them equal amounts.
DesertDweller Report post Posted January 16, 2010 You will use the 15x's much more than the spotting scope, so buy the best you can afford. Spotting scopes are just want their name says they are - for looking at a spot. That's why they don't call them "Finding Scopes"! <wink> A lower priced spotting scope will usually suffice for checking out horns, or your target at the range. You will spend hours behind your 15x's, so don't skimp there. Another bit of advice, don't skimp on your tripod either! Have fun!!! D.D.
lionhunter Report post Posted January 17, 2010 If you can only swing one, go with the 15s. That being said, you really need both. There will be many times when you glass a buck with the 15s and you just can't tell if it is big enough to go after. Again, If I had to pick one it would be the 15s, but you really need both. P.S. Like RR stated the Vortex Kaibabs are very good for the money. Whitey
markhunts Report post Posted January 22, 2010 Hi, I know I'm new on here, but I purchased a pair of the Swaro 15's several years ago, and I won't go anywhere without them.. I wear glasses, and I've tried looking through spotting scopes and nothing is ever clear for me. The 15's bring in everything I want to see very clear, and if they are too far to tell exactly what size they are down to the inch for the 15's, chances are you can get a lot closer to see exactly what they are.. Just my two cents worth, but if you're like me, coming up with the money for both isn't easy... For me, the 15's are the way to go if you can afford only one....
