What is this?

Recommended Posts

I was is 22 this morning with a buddy. We did not see anything but a chipmunk and a few bow hunters ;) . We came across this thing and I dont know what it is  . It was not there last year that I can recall...I did see some fresh elk tracks and scat at 3500 feet.

This thing is all metal with a solar pannel. no writing or numbers what so-ever.

Not positive but I heard they are used by the National Weather Service

for satellite imaging.

I am sure someone knows for sure.

They monitor stream flow and water levels and send data through radio telemetry. I believe they are mainly used for quick notification of flooding or dam breaks etc.

Not sure what it is but there is one like that just off the highway before you drop off the hill just past the Mt. Ord turn off on the North side.

Maybe for weather or maybe some way they can tell if the mountain is about to slide down on the road again. :D

I found one of those on the north side of I-8 east of Gila Bend about 8 years ago. It's gone now! I thought it might be something to do with the gunnery range on the south side of the road.
