John O Report post Posted January 3, 2010 So late on opening day I had three shots at Javelina. I shoot an X-force with 80 lb limbs, and an arrow speed of 330 f/s. My shots were at about 55 yards. By my calculations, this would allow the pig 0.35 seconds between hearing the shot, and the arrow hitting its mark. Not only did all three jump string, but each arrow hit at least 12 inches behind the animal as it jumped out of the way. Have I found a herd of javelina ninjas, or are they all like this??? mr.smith Report post Posted January 3, 2010 My pig last year turned 180 degrees before the arrow hit on the opposite side. Still hit vitals and killed but was quite amazing. That was at 35yds.
DesertBull Report post Posted January 3, 2010 Second pig I ever killed was at less than 10 yards. He was standing broadside and turned 90 degrees at the shot and the arrow cornholed him. Tracked him for 100-150 yards until he went into a drain pipe under the road. I was flinging arrows at him on my knees while he faced directly at me. Had to go back to the truck and get more arrows. Finally hit him between the eyes and he dies. Had to crawl in there and drag him out...just praying that he was dead and not faking it in order to lure me into his den of death. .270 Report post Posted January 3, 2010 could any of em talk? mighta just been bullwidgeon. if not, i'd keep after that bunch. anything that increases chance of failure on a javelina is a good thing. might even try usin' them suction cup arrows or maybe just not take arrows. ninja pigs? sheesh, everbuddy knows that turtles are the only ninjas of the aminal world. lark. CouesWhitetail Report post Posted January 4, 2010 I had one this year at 30 yards that was broadside and I shot and then watched as my arrow sailed cleanly parallel along his side after he managed to turn and run straight away. Took me awhile to realize what happened. I don't shoot as fast as you, but still I was amazed how fast they can move when they hear the shot! Amanda
.270 Report post Posted January 8, 2010 sounds to me like all you guys oughta shoot at pigs when they are inline with you and maybe they'll spin into the arrow instead of away from it. must be a breed of super pig with special skills. if i get serious about gettin' a pig i just sneak up and grab em by the hing leg and spin em around until they get real dizzy and turn em loose and watch em run in circles backwards until they barf. maybe you guys are tryin' to shoot pigs i already educated? Lark.

.270 Report post Posted January 8, 2010 i've tried pig at least 2 dozen ways and i still ain't got the after taste out from the last time and that was about 10 years ago. i'll take your word for it and let you have it all yourself. they just don't agree with me. i get a tag and go every year, but never shoot one. i keep the fire goin' and maybe shoot a coyote or 2 while my kids do all the huntin'. i might try to shoot one this year with my new 1000 yard rifle, just to see if i can make the shot, but i hafta somebody to give it to first, cuz i ain't eatin' one. baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarf. Knifeboy Report post Posted January 8, 2010 I am with Lark on this one. I have shot seven pigs in as many years. Luckily after year one, I found a guy that likes to eat them stink pigs. I get the joy of going out and hunting them, and then I just hand over the gutted beast to a willing recipient. By the way Congratulations Hammy! Its not everybody who has the guts to admit he missed. Stink pigs are one of my favorite things to pursue, and I have missed my fair share of them. Good luck going forward. I hope to see some photos soon.

AZbowhntr Report post Posted January 14, 2010 and I have missed my fair share of them. I've seen it first hand also. Although I did get to watch you drill one in the head. That's why I shoot them at 3 yards. They can't move at all. Huh Neil.
