FlyingW Report post Posted December 31, 2009 I did the same thing before and luckily all my stuff was still there when I came flying out of bed in the middle of the night . That will definitely wake you up out of a dead sleep and make the hair on the back of your neck stand up . I have made it a habit to take photos of all my hunting gear with serial #'s , brand , model, ect. and I keep them in the safe . Glad you didn't loose anything !!! DUG Report post Posted December 31, 2009 Yes, you are lucky. We always take the "expensive" stuff out of the truck and put it up no matter how tired we are. Only takes a minute to do it, but only takes a minute to steal it, too.

joeybari Report post Posted December 31, 2009 You want to talk about a night mare last year I had packed all my gear up for my Octhunt went to a friend’s house in Scottsdale to give him directions to the hunt sight so that he could meet me out there in a day or so. Well the worst thing could have happened to any hunter about hour latter every thing was gone. 300 ultra, Leopold scope, minox bino, tripod, back pack, side arm, camping gear, cameo, boots, gps, wallet, the list goes on about 10 years worth of gear ranging about 10gs insurance paid 8. That was a hard pill to swallow, learned my lesson the hard way. I never never leave my guns, binos, and other things that are very expensive to replace. WinMag Report post Posted December 31, 2009 I got back from hunting a few years back and as I was unloading the truck and did almost the same thing. I laid my rifle still in the case on top of the 2.5' brick wall between my house and my neighbors house next to the street. Went to bed and then to work the next day and found it still laying there when I got home from work. I had luck on my side that day it could have been bad. I have a Jr High right down the street from me and the kids walk past my house everyday on the way to school.
GameHauler Report post Posted December 31, 2009 Things are better here but when I load up the night before I move my truck behind the fence and the dog is on patrol. When I loaded for the sheep hunt besides having all the usual hunting gear I had food to feed eight hunters for at least a week. There was not an inch of truck (crew cab, long bed) that was not stuffed with stuff. Fortunately my travle trailer had been parked in Quartsite already for 2 months and had rented a storage to keep the quads in . Had to make 3 trips to QS to get every to camp but that was the only practical way to have all I needed. The trip home was supper full with the RV now packed so full you could not get in the door and TJ brought one of the Quads back to Mesa for me. Did I unpack that night? NO! just backed everything behind the gate. No I could not have done that in Mesa.
wildcat Report post Posted December 31, 2009 I left all my hunting gear overnight in my 4runner one night after hunting. The next day I noticed pieces of plastic the same color as my car laying on the ground around it. They tried to break in through the locks and door handles on both sides. Luckily they werent successful but did cause about 400 dollars in damage.
DesertBull Report post Posted January 1, 2010 I think you would be surprised how many people go through the neighborhoods looking for stuff in cars every night. One of these nights, I'm going to set up a trail cam in my driveway. I've found cig butts, bottle caps and other stuff in my drive that I know came from losers looking to rip something off. Fricken meth heads.
az4life Report post Posted January 1, 2010 Gotta say, I don't miss that part of AZ. I hated those nightmares when I lived in Peoria, Mesa, Phx, AJ, and they all had that problem that you could not leave a garage door open or vehicle unlocked or anything in the front yard if you wanted to keep it. I don't worry bout that here. Almost everyone knows everyone and if you poke your nose where it don't belong, you have a 80% chance someone going by will be carrying and not afraid to show you the business end of justice. Happy New Year
firstcoueswas80 Report post Posted January 1, 2010 That right there is why I ALWAYS bring my stuff in! I bring the super important stuff (rifle, bow, optics) in on the first trip.

Snapshot Report post Posted January 2, 2010 I know exactly what you mean! There have been a few times I have woken up, grabbed the S&W, and charged out the door, looking to eliminate a wart off the butt of society , but ended being a false alarm.
