7mm - Good "general" bullet?

Recommended Posts

Looking for recommendations for bullet selection. At the risk of alarming the purists, I'd like to know if there is a good compromise selection, instead of using 2 or 3 different rounds. I plan on hunting bear in September, and mulies in November

You did not mention which 7 mm cartridge you are shooting, but 150 grain bullets are a good all-around weight in most of the 7 mm rounds. If you don't handload, go with one of the premium bullets loaded by almost all of the commercial ammo makers now. You might consider the advice of Charlie Sisk, a custom rifle maker over in Texas, whose motto is "load partitions, shut up and go hunting!"

I've been shooting/ handloading .300 Wby mag for about 20 yrs. I loadf 200gr. Nosler Patitions & use them for all game. Tried 180gr. Nosler ballistic tips and they seem to work well & are less expensive. I'm a believer of Bob Hagel ( Game Loads & Practicle Ballisitics For The North American Hunter author ). Shoot heavy and as fast as your gun can do so accuratly. You can't go wrong with premium bullets. Working up a good load may run you an extra 10-15%, but during hunting season you don't shoot that many rounds. Have friends who load Barnes, Hornady, and others. Just do your load developement and use a premium bullet. BTW I highly reccomend Bob Hagels book. Check Amazon or Brownell's/ Midway. My opion only. Don't wish to enter a P----jng contest. To each their own. jg

Ben & Charlie have good advice; 150 grain Partitions.

I would also try the 160 Nosler Accubond also. I have had real good accuracy and game results with the Accubonds out of my 300 WSMs.
