What would you do?

Recommended Posts

If this has been talked about before sorry for bringing it back up, but I was thinking last night...

Scenario: You are out hunting, you take a shot at an animal...the 30min-1hour mark has past and you are now on the blood trail. It is getting dark ( past shooting light ) and you find your game and it is not dead. Do you...

you finish it off, tag it and take care of it. don't leave a wounded animal because you're afraid of how to interpret a law. Lark.

If you are worried about the legality at that moment.... Call your local WM and they will probably give you the "go ahead" or the "no way" based on the situation.... I'd bet on the "go ahead" if you are square with them. ;)

For me, it's a no-brainer. If I've already put an arrow in it & it's still light enough to see my sights, I'm finishing the job.

If it's too dark to see my sights, then try a reverse half-nelson, followed up with a sleeper-hold.

That happens sometimes. No matter how carefull we are to take a "good shot". Sometimes they will move in the short time it takes the bullet to get there. Or the bullet will catch an unexpected gust of wind or unseen branch. I would finish what I started. IMO it would be the ethical thing to do. Legal? Peace.

That mental picture cracked me up!

Otherwise try the "Judo Chop!"

Jump on its back and start stabbing it (hey - just cause it's past shooting light don't mean it's past knifing light).

Jusk kidding - I agree with the others here. You finish it off. I'd rather go defend that course of action in court than let the animal lay there all night suffering - not to mention lost/spoiled meat, etc.

No just thinking is all. My #4 child and I were talking about hunting and as we talked I thought about all the animals I have harvested in the afternoon and evening and wondered "what if this would have happened?" What would I have done? I would finish the job of course, I would look past the law on this one. I have respect for the animal and that would be the most ethical and humane decision in my opinion. Plus, I wouldn't want the meat to get too gamey! :P

I had to do this before and trust me not fun.

Tough question for sure I think it would depend on the situation but it would probably be best to obey the laws set by the G&F.
