Toxiplasmosis

Recommended Posts

Just thought I would share this with the rest of you in case you all ever run across it. I've never seen it till two weeks ago. I asked a friend about it, who also as see it in gambels, who past it on the the G&F vet who said it was likely a parasite, Toxiplasmosis. It will pose no threat to humans if the meat is cooked well. Dogs and cats can get it, especialy our 'retrievers' who like to snake on downed birds.

I have seen it quite a few times. I thought it was fat tissue.... I looked it up on the CDC website and its actually called Toxoplasmosis. http://www.cdc.gov/toxoplasmosis/ I looked at the pics of the parasite and cant really say that it looks anything like your pic (of course the closest one to compare was stained). Apparantly it starts with cats and goes up the food chain from there. I suppose it would be easy for a mearns to pick at a cat turd on occasion. Hopefully there is a vet or game biologist on here that can clear this up. I guess I wont be eating any raw quail meat until then. Can we get a second opinion on this one?? <_<
